Tonight, at about 8:40 p.m., my college career was officially finished with the completion of my Business Law final. It's a weird feeling to know that I'll never have to do homework again, but it feels great after stressing over so much the past few weeks, and especially today.
I had a paper due this morning that I finished at about 4 a.m. this morning. After studying for another hour, I grabbed a few hours of sleep before going to my final Theology of Gender class. Then, I spent about an hour studying and printing out the paper I had revised last night, and then I took my Media Ethics test. Last night, my mom had also called me about some bills for some parking violations that I didn't know I had, so I went to go find out about those. Come to find out I apparently have four (I only knew of two) that will cost me over $200. The officer at the station told me how to get one reduced though, so I'll do that and chop it down to about $150. Stupid popos and street sweeping. After that, I head back for a couple hours of studying for business law and finally finished out the college career. So, it wasn't exactly the best day for me.
But as I walked away from my final with a feeling of satisfaction for just having finished my last final in college ever, I saw I had a voicemail on my phone. I knew who it would be, but I was nervous to hear what she would say. It was Deborrah, the editor at the paper in Yreka that I interviewed with. She told me she had talked to my old boss at the Mohave Valley Daily News and heard what she was already sure of - that I was a great person to work with. So, she said, she figured she would be crazy not to ask me to join her staff and she wanted to have a conversation about getting me up there.
I couldn't believe it. Not only did I finish college tonight, but I had a job offer even before I was done! I called back, but she didn't answer her phone, so I left her a message asking her to call me. About 45 minutes later, she called me and we talked about details. I'll start June 6, and hopefully before then Deborrah will have found me a place to live and I'll figure out what to do about my car.
So, I'll go graduate on Saturday, spend some time with the family, go party on Sunday, go through and consolidate possessions during the week and head up to Yreka that weekend. I'm pretty nervous to be embarking on this new chapter of life, but I htink it'll be exciting and fun (except for having to hear my sister's sad voice again when she once again realizes I'm not coming home to stay. I had to tell her that today, and it was so sad!). There's so many unknowns, but I'm ready to meet them head on. Let's go world. Bring it on!
