Becoming a shipper is a profound and powerful experience

My previous post was an attempt at being funny about the concept of ‘real and pure’ S/B shipper. Not sure it worked properly. *g* You know I have it on good authority that humor is harder to express in a foreign language . When trying to tease , you can be sure that lots of people won’t take it as a teasing. ;)

Of course such thing as a 'real' shipper doesn’t exist.
Mmmm actually, I never read anything else but S/B ( at the exception of a bunch of S/B/A stories but it doesn’t count , right ? There is still S/B *puppy dog eyes* ) and I’m pretty fine like this, thank you.
I believe we will all agree that to ship is to be interested in two characters to the point of wanting them together , in all rainbows of expression.

Now I noticed that there’s no equivalent for shipper in French or I’m not aware of it. Perhaps frenchani , you know more ?
We will just say “Je suis pour a + b “. There isn’t a word that has been created for this special purpose .I wonder what it means .
Does shipping come from you bloody colonials ? :-)

Seems so ! The Urban Dictionnary has some nice definitions.

1.To ship something means a person wants two characters to get together and/or shows support for two characters already together. The term "ship" came from the X-Files fandom, when fanfics were written about Mulder and Scully. The fans then called themselves shippers. It quickly spread and is now the title a person gives themself if they believe two characters should or will be together (The characters can be from anything: Books, Movies, Television, Video Games, and even Actors/Actresses). It is not limited to the couple actually happening, a person can ship something just because they enjoy the possibility of them getting together or even just because they think they would look good together.
(For Example : Spike +Buffy )

2. A shipper.believes there is, was, should, and could be a relationship between 2 characters in a certain fandom.
(For Example : Spike +Buffy )

3.A fan devoted to a particular couple/pairing in a fandom. Usually fanatical.

(Like I said : Spike + Buffy - FOREVER )

4.A shipper is singlehandedly one of the most annoying fans of television. They are obsessed with the notion that two characters of a TV show or movie should be or will be together. These particular type of fans have no interest in the more pertinent aspects of the show, just the romance of the characters they are shipping.
A "ship" usually gets its name by pairing the first letter of the male with the female's name, or vice versa.
(For Example : Spike + Buffy )

5.A confusing and lame term used by nerds. Used to describe one's self as a fan of two television characters who are better looking and "cooler" and non-nerd hooking up.

( We are spuffies ! Destroyer of the worlds !)

We even have shipper angst : Contrived and torturously convoluted writing of a TV show’s characters’ relationships, done simply for the sake of interjecting more ‘drama’ into the series.
(Joss, Joss . ::raises fist:: )

Well, I think I am a shipper, and I got myself a gang.:)
What about you?
