It's been forever

But, I finally decided to write something here...I won't go moaning about the awful 2 weeks I've had prior because it honestly doesn't matter and it all went as well as things like that could possibly go. My quality-of-life-o-meter is still fairly high. In times like these some people forget just how fortunate they are, overall, and start ( Read more... )

I tend to think that if you forget things, it's probably because you never really understood 'em in the first place. Ever have someone explain something over and over to you until it starts making sense and then 10 minutes later, you totally forget his/her reasoning? I think that's probably why I don't remember anything about Linear Algebra, Physics, etc.. Then againI usually don't remember what happened yesterday...I don't know what that means.

I've never actually sat through "Politically Incorrect." I think it tends to be kinda guest-driven though. If you don't get the right guests, it just plain sucks. I'm actually kinda psyched that the replacement is a Jimmy Kimmel show. I like Jimmy.

ps-It sucks to be at work at 6:30am.

I'm the type that bugs someone to explain until it makes complete sense...I didn't bother with some of the more obscure proofs, but I think I understood linear algebra fairly well. Doing some 3-D programming and skimming the textbook will probably bring it all to mind again.

I agree about politically incorrect. It did suck sometimes when they chose frivolous topics or crappy guests, but I think its sad that one of the few high profile shows which encourages independent thought and discussion was shut down for doing exactly what it set out to do. It's not like Jimmy Kimmel couldn't have gotten a spot that belonged to some other ABC show...although, it might be kinda telling that Kimmel is replacing PI. The Man Show is all about mock political incorrectness, while Mahr's show was about the real thing...maybe ABC never intended that.

If you asked me to name one thing I took away from taking a linear algebra class, I'd have to pass. Everything I remember from it was stuff I had already taken before. I guess theory was never really my strong suit. WAIT! I still remember EVERYTHING I ever learned from my econometrics class though...theory and all. Hmmm...maybe I just forget things that don't really interest me? Or possibly, I just forget things in general.

Maybe I'm totally off base here but I don't think that ABC had any problem with "Politically Incorrect" being too over the top or anything. I think they cancelled it because they were starting to pull out really stupid topics and guests that had no idea what they were talking about. If I was an ABC executive, I'd probably keep PI but make it a once a week show. It's just too hard to keep up the quality when you have to put out a show each and every day.

Well, the problems with PI started when Maher didn't stop criticizing the gov't after the terrorist attack. Sears pulled its advertising as did FedEx.

I have to disagree. I think memory is a use or lose kind of entity. Our brains only have so much capacity for new information. Did you know that your memory starts to deteriorate in your 20s? This happens because you hit the max capacity of your brain and it now has to weed out all the useless crap to make room for the new useful stuff. I think you could understand something 100%, find it interesting enough to learn and even use for a while, but if you stopped using it, you'd lose it. Why would your brain maintain strong connections for something that you haven't used in years? It's just like foreign languages. You knew it way back when, but if you stopped speaking it, you lost it. A sign we're getting old.
