Just a quick note to let you all know I made it safely, with no luggage or flight incidents, to Kingston last night. Nel picked me up and took me to Lisa Marie's for a quick change and to drop my luggage, then I spent the evening with Lisa Marie at a party for the teenagers Lisa works with at Swallowfield Chapel.
Those who've been following my blog a while (or been to Jamaica with me) will probably remember Wade. Got to see him last night. Crazy to see these kids all grown up--he's driving (Jamaican driving age is 18), working at a cement plant, and getting ready for college in Pennsylvania next month. We reminisced about Wade's days as the camper who brought his own toilet seat to camp and a different toothbrush for each day of the week. He claims he's not quite the germaphobe he once was. We'll see. :)
Wade picked Lisa and I up this morning and dropped us off at Nel's house. We'll walk to Swallowfield Chapel from here at 10. You'll be shocked to hear that I'm using wireless on my laptop at this very moment. Gone are the days of spending hours at Nel's whirring desktop computer, just to post a single blog entry! Jamaica's taken some major leaps forward in my absence--for the first time ever in Kingston, I disembarked my airplane via a ramp, instead of a roll-up set of stairs. (The roll-up stairs were what allowed a crazy guy to hijack an airplane here a couple months ago--he just ran onto the tarmac and up the stairs with a gun.)
Saw Nel's son Jonathan just now. He was a little surprised to see me (apparently thought the move to Africa had been a permanent one), but then told me "it look like ova deh fatten yu up a likkle bit." Mmmkay thanks Jonathan.
Will probably spend the day at Nel's after church, then early next week I need to work on getting money exchanged and a new Jamaican phone. A task made slightly more difficult by the fact that I've forgotten where most things are. :)
