So...canon denial?

Jan 01, 2011 03:38

I try to stick to canon as closely as possible with my fics.  If I don't like something then I try to work around it, not ignore it.  and outside of fic canon is pretty much gospel.

However, there is a cut off point.  By cut off point I mean TOTALLY DISOWN 4EVA because the writers have obviously gone insane, the story has stopped making sense and characters are only doing things because the dumb plot says so!

So far I only have one thing I fangirl that has the 'cut off' sticker mentally stamped on it, Digimon Adventure 02.  As far as I'm concerned the finale never happened, the show was mysteriously cancelled and it was never made!  Facing the reality of the finale would only send me into a rage because it made no fucking sense.  Full stop.  I'm not going into the details because I might end up twitching on my floor in a foamy rage.

Now I am faced with that dilemma with my new joy, Misfits.  I watched all the episodes over Christmas and I love, love, every character and episode. Even the things I don't 100% agree with have great moments *coughSimon/Alishacough*. I even have a new OTP, Nathan/Kelly, which shows how good the writers are because I normally can't stand the Jerkass/Tsundere BST-type pairing.

However, I...really don't like the Christmas episode.  Why?  Oh where to begin.  The dumb plot, the contradictions of everything that happened earlier in the series, every character getting their own idiot ball.  Oh and Nathan/Marnie, even if I didn't love Nathan/Kelly, Nathan/Marnie would still be way too rushed for me.  They met and fell instantly in love in less time it took to shag against the lockers, yes there is love at first sight, but this just feels like the writer went, "what should Nathan do?  Shag and commit to a pregnant girl who'll give birth at Christmas, and he'll give up his immortality for her, GENIUS!"  It's a real shame, especially as I like Marnie.
The only interesting thing at the end of the episode was which powers they would get with their locker full of cash, but the rest of the special was a hot mess, and it really doesn't feel like it fits in with s1+2.
