I was told that the difference between an illusion and a magic trick is knowing how its done. That by knowing how its done takes away from the magic and makes it less impressive.
I said I don’t understand the relevance. But I do understand the meaning.
If the magician chooses to take on an assistant or partner, then how will it work if they do not share the secrets to how their magic is performed?
The magic trick may initially catch my eye but it just skims the surface… it is in discovering its inner workings that I personally find the real magic. The magic that grabs my heart and when strong and deep enough wont let go. Its the inner workings and complexities that fascinate me.
The magic trick itself holds the lesser amazement. Some may be happy to watch the magic performed over and over again without knowing its secret… but I seek something deeper than that and without it the fascination wanes. It is knowing how it is done that truly impresses me. What someone may find to be too much information or too much familiarity I find to be the very thing that is the magic. Without that magic, it just doesn’t feel right.
