In my own part I did do something a long time ago and to this day I still stand by that oath that I swore to defend a persons rights. I gave up my own civil rights so that others might have theirs. I put my life on the line so that other people in another country my have some rights that they otherwise may not have.
In the end to this fight I did nothing. I couldn't even vote on the issue because I live in a differing state that wasn't a part of that vote. I bitched to others that it was even an issue that was up for vote and yet it still made little difference, because in Nevada it is an issue that's up for vote.
I can use the argument of being in another state or what can one person do and after rereading some of the Marine Corps history and what a number of individuals did that made so much difference I fell as if I failed in that oath that I swore so long ago.
It's when our government and others allow politics and religion to mix that a person's true discrimination's and hatred come to the surface. Look at the Salem Witch Trials or the Crusades. There's so much hatred and intolerance in our past and it took the deaths of so many and oceans of blood spilled to make right those wrongs. It truly saddens me that the only time our country seems to wake up and take notice to the wrongs taking place is only after so many lives are lost in the fight to fix something that shouldn't have to be fixed in the first place.
