I've begun learning the bass line of Melancholic by Plastic Tree.
It's quite tiresome.
It tires me when a bassist is determined to use a pick and ravage a song. I look down upon these people. You can call me elitist or what not but that is what I will say. I will end up being capable of using a pick but I will never choose it in bass playing.
If in this song I must go through unbelievable amounts of pain, I will endure.
For something I love and believe, I will work hard.
So today, I'm going to play the part I have so far for Melancholic five times consecutively at 176 crotchets per minute. It's not a matter of playing fast enough, but rather how long you can keep up this speed. 1 minute? 2 perhaps?
I have to achieve 192 crotchets by next Saturday and I have to keep this speed up for 4 minutes.
I know I can do it but it'll make me hate picks even more. But it'll make me even more determined to take it on.
I will succeed in the end.
It is truly melancholic...
