Dad's 40th celebration was fantastic yesterday =).
It started off quiet, but once the family-with-kids, neighbour and general non-party-type people went home, it kicked off.
Near the beginning, Saul and I performed our special dance-with-drums routine that we've been planning. The drumming wasn't anything crazy, but it was perfect at fulfilling the whole Saul-needs-to-breakdance-to-this role, which was what I was aiming for :).
I could drink and relax after that- for future reference, a big shot of tequila followed immediately by a salted lime tastes fantastic. I've never experienced anything like it!
I've decided I love 16. The people there didn't treat me like a child and often assumed that I was their age. I met some weird and wonderful people (as you would expect from the people my parents know) and had a great time. When we weren't having silly conversations, we were dancing to the pretty damn amazing mixes that were being played (mainly of the drum 'n bass and breakbeat variety). 'Steve the Weave' stole the show - during his set the whole house seemed to shake with the crazy dancing!
The uber-balloons (a big 4 an a big 0), the strobes, UV, glitter ball and music-controlled colour lights really set everything off. It was great to see the old faces that I haven't seen in so long again.
In addition, Sat (uber-friend of the family) gave me £100 (!!!!!) for passing my GCSEs. It had been planned previously that he was going to somewhat 'sponsor' my plans to become a great cinematographer by giving me money towards my camera (which, as I have lowered the model I've set my sights on, is pretty much saved up for). I have never been given a cheque that large before and I am totally and utterly chuffed to bits : ).
When I buy the camera, I will then have to buy a tripod, microphone and cases etc. to go with it.
I'm hoping that the facilities at Hills Road will be suitable, because then there is the case of
a) not having a suitable computer to save and edit footage onto
b) not having the relevant software on a suitable computer
Both these things are at least equal to the cost of the camera and aforementioned accessories. It's quite frustrating to still only be half way after so long- this is also taking into account that half the money I am putting towards the camera is the money that has been put away for me for the last 16 years. Thus I can conclude that it will take me 2 years (excluding EMA, which I intend to use as my general life support) to save enough to get all I require in order to shoot and produce films. Heart-breaking, but at least it's somewhat foreseeable.
Anyway.
At about 5am, most people were asleep. Sat and I decided that sleep would be good and I did so until 12pm.
A fair amount of people were still around. It was nice to have a mellow chat in the sunshine after the previous escapades.
I came across the news that my mum had given away Graham 2.5 to Helen (uber-eccentric Brighton dweller who throws good cocktail parties!).
Graham 2.5 was the 4th Graham plant that had all self-seeded from the original Graham (Graham, Graham 1, Graham 2 and Graham 2.5).
Graham 2.5, however, was a very special case. Graham's other children had come about through splitting Graham. One day we found a teeny tiny leaf under one of the Grahams and we realised that Graham had self seeded. We moved this teeny tiny leaf to somewhere where it would be better suited and were anxious that this fragile thing would n't survive. It did however, and began to get bigger and bigger and grew other leaves. It was wonderful to see.
Anyway, now he is gone. When mum told me I actually cried. My Grahams are like children to me, it was like losing a pet.
I hope he goes into a loving home.
