almost forgot about my project!! was too busy perusing david chang's "momofuku" cookbook. tracked down a copy at palmy public library and asked joel to borrow it. i'm going to try a few recipes from the book when i finally have the time so watch out for it.
another pinoy comfort food, GSK (long yard beans and squash in coconut milk). used green beans for the dish because it's not easy to find long yard beans in nz, and if you do, they're usually expensive. finally made GSK without turning the squash into mush. followed the recipe on the Kulinarya book. used coconut cream instead of milk too. (i still couldn't taste the difference between the two.)
next friday will be joel's birthday so i have decided to make something special (and terribly daunting) to celebrate it. i haven't told him yet but i'm going to make Cassoulet. i've never even heard about it until this week when i was surfing the e-Gullet forum. it's the first on the cook-off index. i really want to cook my way through the index, and there's a good enough reason to make it since it's joel's birthday. with all the time and $$$ that will go into that dish, it better be worth it! also need to make DG's peanut butter torte for his cake. man, we're going to eat like a king next weekend! ack!
