Warrior Dash/Tae Bo Recert Boot Camp Training: Week Four Recap

Sunday, July 3

Walk/run intervals in the park with sweetie. It was tough! The intervals made my legs go, "(O_O)?! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!" and they stopped wanting to pick up after while even though I had energy and will. (o_o) But next time, I rest assured that it will be easier. (I say that but we will push ourselves next time too.)

On the first lap, we walked to the bathroom, and after a pit stop jogged a bit, then walked a little more, then ran a mile, and more walk/jog back to the truck. It was REALLY hot and I had to douse myself at the drinking fountain because my temples were pounding with blood and I’d gotten dizzy from the heat (AT NIGHT!!!). When we returned to the truck I drank a lot of fluids - Smart Water and Gatorade. I ended up getting a stomach cramp on the next lap and we had to break the run up into ½-mile increments. My legs, also, started to feel like lead and didn’t want to pick up even though I had energy and told them to go. The final lap was a lot of short intervals of walking and jogging, but we did manage the mile of running…broken up into chunks: ½, ¼, and ¼ with about ¼ mile of walking between. We jogged in spurts too but the stomach cramps stopped and then my stomach was growling audibly. About midway through the second lap and on through the final lap sweetie was dragging in parts too, although he didn’t talk about his issues much (not wanting to discourage me) and didn’t suffer exhaustion per se but his endurance was not up to par either. I think the drastic change in our training to intervals where we run or jog as much as we can stand (versus running for 1 mile and walking for 2 miles which is predictable and simpler) is a good change but we have awhile to go before we get used to it. All in all I believe the intervals will do us a lot more justice though, because the Dash is comprised of a lot of starting and stopping - intervals of running mixed with essentially strength training (obstacles).

Happy Independence Day, my dears! Today was laundry day, but as to my fitness endeavors:

* ~6 hours: studying anatomy for the group fitness instructor exam (Saturday was physiology)

* 1 hour: yoga

I'm a bit fried after all the study. Even though I was off from work I was crazy busy! Gonna read more of The Return of Sherlock Holmes (70 more pages and I've read all of Conan Doyle's Holmes stories) and relax a bit before bed (o^^o)~♥

Tuesday, July 5
Tae Bo class: 30 mins - 228kcal
--> Killed my ladies strength training style! Upper body til their arms were gonna fall off, then lower body til they couldn't stand, then down to the floor to work the abs til they shriveled up :DDDDD~ As Faithy says, "If you ain't dyin' you ain't tryin'!" ♥

* Tae Bo form practice: 30 mins - 284kcal
--> Reviewed #'s 1-4, jump 2, and some things from the newer videos which I may only assume will be covered at camp also (back fist, high and low block, down punch). Right arm is not as coordinated on rapid punches in succession but I am left-handed and moreover the right arm is the one that went numb with my nerve injury and lost mobility. Worked on it a bit more than my left. Need to turn my butt more on alternating 3's and 4's (more noticeably on 3's). Need to continue practicing triple 1-back fist combo at a fast pace as when moving fast it's harder to show the distinction between the two moves.

* Walk/run intervals: 1 hour 10 mins - 670kcal
--> On manual 20% incline treadmill. Skipped ahead in the training program - run 3 mins, walk 1 min x 10 (plus extended warm-up and cool-down as my treadmill causes injuries).

Total burned: 1,182kcal. Wanted to do some yoga too but frankly I'm tired and I want to finish my book. ;)
Wednesday, July 6
* Teaching Tae Bo class: 30 mins: 234kcal
--> Intervals again, killed everyone! The good thing about intervals is that time goes by fast and everyone is pushed to their own level naturally if they are trying ;)

* PT24/7: Ripped Core: 30 mins: 281kcal

* Tae Bo form training: 22 mins: 150kcal
--> #'s 5-9, 13, 00, roundhouse elbow. Also practiced triple-1, back fists with my right arm again. Can't really practice 9 or 00 on my carpet without twisting my knee though. Due to scoliosis I have a harder time balancing/kicking when kicking on the left. Need more practice but I haven't given my legs enough recuperation time to do so too intensely while still maintaining form.

* Jala's Cardio Circuit 2: 20 mins: 201kcal
--> 2 x 1 min each of (jog in place, squat jacks, high knees, butt kicks, triple 1-2's, 1-2-3-knee, in & out + military press) followed by 1 min sprint. Stretch.

* Jala's Ab Circuit 3: 20 mins: 98kcal
--> 2 x 1 min each of (v-ins, backlying scissor kicks, cross-reach crunches, reach crunches, sidelying oblique crunches, marching steps, body curls) followed by 1 min torso twists. Stretch.

Total burn: 958kcal but I've been burning out my muscles all day long. May take tomorrow as my rest day as I only teach yoga, but we'll see how it goes when tomorrow gets here. Hittin' the shower, then protein shake and delving into my new leisure reading -- a short book on applied normative Buddhist ethics. :)~♥

Rest day :DDDDD~ Taught yoga vinyasa style. Tempur-Pedic pillows arrived. It was destiny! ♥ gotta try out pillows ♥

I ♥ sleeping! Too bad I sleep incredibly lightly unless exhausted and wake up several times a night (~_~;) but in a little bit I get to see sweetie ♥ very happy ♥

Taking today for the sake of one of my longstanding non-fitness interests: writing. I promised my best friend Slade I would finish a chapter of my story and send it to him this weekend. He's in sub school in the Navy and will be a sonar tech...under the waves half the year and inaccessible. So, as he is my most dedicated and avid fan, I feel I must oblige as I have severely neglected both my writing and painting in the last several months between injury and attempted recovery as well as training for camp.

My soul, however, requires a more creative outlet and my time-honored passions need some love, too. That is why today I am intentionally foregoing all training. Love ♥
