I went to the chiropractor yesterday. Had a little heart to heart about what I need to do now insofar as recert camp, and of course my training. Dr. Burleigh recommended that I try to reschedule to August camp, as he is concerned that I may push too hard (NAW, not ME!) and hurt myself again if I have too short a deadline. [[I'll be mailing Shellie shortly about just that.]] He said that since my training was NOT what CAUSED it (it was the desk job), the stretching will be good for my neck/shoulder in moderation. He cleared me yesterday to TRY moderate Tae Bo again (nothing like live classes, or with bands, no high-intensity and no plyo and so on), to see how I fair, and dropped me down to one appointment a week. Now, I can tell you right now that I can't do push-ups, weight or band work, and just from moving my shoulder as I did the other day during the body twists I was doing I can tell you that I can't punch for very long on that side. And, nor SHOULD I -- if I do I will aggravate the injury and worsen it.
Doc cracked my neck somethin' fierce and it was sore thereafter. When on the phone with my best friend last night he said I sounded absolutely exhausted and recommended that I sleep and rest, and as that's been the trend after a visit to the chiro, I agreed. Today my neck feels better of course. Now my biggest challenge is to figure out what I will do to try Tae Bo again as my tendency is usually to do too much instead of too little.
I am of the opinion that it may be a good idea to restart my walk-run interval program from the beginning to test how the jostling does on my neck (the beginning of the program is like 3 min walk, 1 min run so it's not too much at once), and perhaps doing Target Tae Bo WITHOUT weights. The stretches that the doctor gave me to do while at work at the office reminded me in part of the full rotation you get with Target Tae Bo, but I am unsure of the weights would put too much pressure on my neck/shoulder. So either I will do it without weights, or with only 1 pair of weights (usually I use 2 and sometimes 2 pairs of T3s with weight gloves and anklets depending on where I am in my training). For now I have errands and the like but later today I will begin my test.
Either way, I have determined that on Monday I WILL return to teaching Tae Bo -- if I cannot do the punches and whatnot, so be it, I will run it however I need to run it. My girls are just as anxious to return to training with me, as I am to train them as well as myself.
I've got a lot of catching up to do and I will have to put my body through a real test to get it closer to where it needs to be for recert. Here's to hoping that I know when to rest, because right now especially I need to be aware of it, and heed it.
