I realize there are some few details I shouldn't mention in social media, so forgive my discretion and occasional "vague-booking".
The holiday was spent at my girlfriend's parents's place and I'll admit I was a little apprehensive.
Just a little.
I had met them briefly before and there didn't seem to be any issues - something Sarah had verified. Still, this would be an all day thing, and it wouldn't be the first time I've heard of people who can tolerate others for a limited amount of time.
I needn't have worried. People were in and out, but some time was spent with everyone. The little twins were fun, and showed me their acrobat ability, and then showed me their toys. All of them. LOL!
The family pets took to me without any issues, and even Zoe, Sarah's cat, warmed up after some typical feline aloofness.
Her parents and particularly her grandparents were ebullient (especially her grandfather) and though they asked a few questions (the usual things you'd expect I suppose), they didn't grill me as I thought they might. Her father was not as talkative, but he was by no means taciturn either. I got the impression he was normally reserved to some degree.
Amusingly, they seemed to agree, that if I remained with Sarah even after all the stories they had told, they would consider that as a point in my favor. Apparently, a family trait I've already determined, and they confirmed, is the females in the family are known for their strength of will. "Happy wife means happy life" is taken seriously here. How about that? That's something I agree with so it won't scare me away in the slightest.
It was a genuine pleasure to meet them all: her brother and his wife (I see them as married regardless of formalities), their two sons (twins), grandparents, and of course, her mother and father. And let's not forget Zoe (cat), and Bella (dog).
An invitation to come for Christmas was extended, and with that, and a whispered endorsement from her grandfather, it was clear they accepted me as Sarah's boyfriend who, if she was willing, could be more with their blessing.
It was food for thought. I've never had much in the way of a family after all. I'm looking forward to seeing where this goes.
