So...
The BIG question/confusion has been cleared up as much as I think it's going to be.
I guess JK had to rely on slippery slopes, because this seems -- well, uhh, -- slippery...
The Confusion was over how Malfoy became the Master of the Elder Wand, and how Harry then took Mastership over from him.
Draco becomes Master:
'"Expelliarmus," ...Dumbledore's wand flew in an arc over the edge of the rampart...he merely looked across at his disarmer and said "Good evening, Draco."'
-- Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
It seems that by disarming Dumbledore, Malfoy became the free-flying wand's new master.
Harry becomes Master:
When Harry took the two wands from Draco at the Malfoy Mansion in Book 7, he disarmed Draco, and so got the alliance of Draco's wand.
It is assumable, then, that by disarming Draco of the wand present, Harry disarmed Draco of both his wands.
So, from this we can assume that the theory (which Voldie also seemed to follow) of a new master having to kill the old is false.
The alliance of the Elder Wand is won as that of any other wand is, too.
Questions of loose strings left at the end of the book:
> Where did Harry's broom go? Does he ever get it back?
> When Harry speaks of putting the Elder Wand back where it came from, where is he talking of? Dumbledore's tomb?
