Barei - Say Yay!

This song is hovering around the fringes of the top ten, which is understandable because it is one of those summer party anthems that Eurovision likes to give the world. My only issue is that the main dance move in this clip is giving me NKOTB Flashbacks, and that is not a good thing.

This is apparently the first Spanish entry with no Spanish lyrics. I also don’t know if the line “lalalala” is in homage to the first Spanish winner of Eurovision from all the way back in 1968. I doubt it was intentional, but it is a sweet link. Too many La’s anyway…

All the lines are sung with such confidence despite the fact that they are largely nonsensical. “I know by heart my shades; I got the light between my breaks” what is that even meant to mean? I would comment about Kids these days, but she is 34. Engrish hasn’t stopped anyone from winning though.

This year’s song may eventually be a commercial for active-ware or energy drink. Spain likes songs that sound like advertising jingles… like in 1979
