I've had it up to here and I'm about to lose my temper

Dear Avatar Fandom,

Fuck you.

When the hell did my OTP become such a joke to you that you openly mock each and every person who ships it?  Why is it that EVERY TIME I USE A GODDAMN ZUTARA ICON I get comments like, "Oh, I'll try not to think less of you because of your choice in ships."

WHAT. THE HELL.

So I'm less of person because I ship Zutara?  ( Read more... )

wank, zutara, fandom, shipping

Raises hand as another person wandering in from katara_zuko.

Before, I've never really cared, but right now, I could want nothing more. I hope they make-out for ten fucking minutes for no damn reason other than TO PISS YOU OFF.

As a fan who is mostly Avatar fan first and pairing fan second, I think I try to stay pretty fair and reasonable. But damn, it is getting irritating. Even though I don't trust the Avatar Staff with canon romances (count me amongst the few who don't like Sukka) and thinks that Zutara might get the better end of the stick should it remain in fanon, I'm feeling that same sentiment of "I didn't care about whether or not Zutara was canon before, but the more you people yap, the more I'm starting to care."

But what annoys me more is that Mike and Bryan single out the Zutara fandom time and again (like that toonzone interview). Maybe at one time, the attention seemed like a compliment but now it just feels like they are feeding the flames.

And all in all, it kinda sucks.

J.K Rowling is a wonderful story teller, but she completely messed up the development of Ginny/Harry by making him fall for her at the drop of a hat. I wouldn't have mind if she spent more time with him before he started having feelings for her.

A little off-topic, but I totally agree with the above comment. And I was a Harry/Ginny shipper from Book One. :P It was the right romance but poorly executed.

Do you mind if I ask why you don't like them? *I adore them, and I'm curious.*

Mmm... good question. Here are my reasons (mind you, not all of them are good reasons, but they are reasons of a sort):

1. I'm biased: I like Toph and Toph likes Sokka. If Aang, age 12, is heading towards the holy mountain of canon!coupling with Katara, age 14, because he's loved her forever, then why can't Toph, also age 12, get cut a break with Sokka? (I know. I know. He's 16 and she's 12. That is a significant age gap at that time in life, but Sokka doesn't have to be practically married at the end of show. Whatever happened to open endings ( ... )

A:TLAB seems to develop all relationships that actually amount to anything in a few episodes...sans Aang and Katara...*cough*

*nods* Tis true. Tis true.

Which is why I'm not that keen on how the "canon" ships are written in show. Even if Katara/Zuko were to go canon, I'm not giddy that it may come about with 6 eps to go.

In that sense, Katara/Aang fans have a huge advantage over all ships and it is probably why I feel that Katara/Aang (if there is a canon ship for Katara) will be the endgame. They've got three seasons of togetherness and three seasons of them being devoted to each other on some level or another.

I can totally understand your point of view.

It has nothing to do with age! It's because he's madly in love with a kyoshi warrior! *hem* Sorry about that. And yeah, Toph in love is adorable, and I wish there were someone else for her to go off into the sunset with.

Heck, even he and Katara have some serious chemistry going on

Oh my god I know! I read on fic with them, went that's hot, and now I have an incest pairing! I feel so ashamed.

I felt ashamed the first time I went "Oh Sokka" when he was all "But that's my little sister out there!"

And in "The Headband", there was something a bit rightwrong about them playing a married couple with a baby on the way. Talk about subtext.

There is an icon of that scene, with Katara FREAKING PREGNANT and Sokka with a beard (that honestly, I don't think he looks that good in) and Aang as there kid with the text 'the fanfic writes itself' that really summed up that moment.

*snerk*

I have to go search for that icon. I know someone who would love to have it! It is so perfect.

(PS - Sokka didn't look too good in that beard but he loved it. But then he did like that green buckle sachet/purse thingy.)

I don't really care about Sukka, but it seems to me like certain ships seem to get completely demolished in my regard when they become canon. No, wait, it's only actually one ship that I was looking forward to playing out but then they just dumped a big mushfest in our faces. I'm not saying any names though ;P Sorry, that's the bitter side of me coming out, I really don't hate it THAT much ( ... )

*hee-hee* We all have our bitter moments. I'm a Tatsuki (Bleach) fan so I know all about being bitter.

I'm probably one of the rare Katara/Zuko fans that really REALLY doesn't want them to become canon. Not only do I not think they'll be canon; I'm not keen on them becoming canon either. If Katara and Zuko are friends at the end, that'd be good enough for me. Why? Because, irritation at Avatar fandom in general aside, that would be realistic given the amount of time they've had together and what their focus should be. Tacking on a romance would just seem... well... cheap. I don't mind the Katara/Aang angle because it is something that has to be resolved one way or another due to the importance of the Avatar state. But a Katara/Zuko romance with 6 eps to go? I just don't feel that the writers have the heart or the goods to pull something like that off without messing up the overall storyline and the overall storyline is still more important to me than what happens to Zutara ( ... )
