Sims and Stuff

Sometimes I forget that sims are like, programmed to be inspirational or something.

So I made a new family in my goof-off town, mostly because I was tired of playing with my lesbian vampire sluts.  Not that lesbian vampire sluts aren't fun to play, of course, but I was tired and I wanted to play a boring family for once.

Only, this is me we're talking about, and I don't know how to make boring sims, even when I try to.

So I made this family--the Dress family (don't make fun of the last name--they were almost the Simsons).  It was made up of well-meaning father!Bart (who is Good, Ambitious, Genius, Snob, and a workaholic) and retired punk rocker mother!Eliza (who is Ambitious, Flirty, Virtuoso, Rebellious, with a good sense of humor.)  I gave them two average blonde kids (Melanie and Harry) and then put them in a nice house in a nice part of town.

Mind you, I set up this family to fail, mostly because boring happy monogous couples are boring.  My plan was to make Eliza extraordinarily talented but stuck at home taking care of kids while Bart was ridiculously smart but too concerned with work to notice his kids much. They would eventually get divorced so that Eliza could Persue Her Dreams While Not Being Tied Down Because Of The Man.

Guys, that's not what happened.  That's not what happened at all.

Let me tell you a little bit about a day in the life of Bart Dress.  Bart is a doctor, you see, and part of being a doctor in the sims means that your sim can get called to work at any time.  And because Bart is rather unlucky, he tends to get called to work at two o'clock in the morning.  So Bart goes to the hospital without complaint, and by the time he gets off the emergency shift he has just enough time to stop and get something to eat/coffee before his usual shift starts at 8.  And he works, and he works hard, too, in part because he's a workaholic, yes, but also because he's ambitious.  He gets off work at four, and goes home.  But Bart doesn't wish to go to sleep or eat hot dogs or even work at home from the computer.  You know what Bart wants to do when he gets home from work?

He wants to read his kids a bedtime story.

This isn't just a one-time deal, either--every day he comes home with some sort of wish to spend time with his kids.  He wants to play catch with his daughter.  He wants to tickle his son.  He wants to help them with their homework.  He wants a relationship with both of them.  And when he gets paid? He doesn't want a new car or anything for himself--he wants a treehouse for his kids.  Think about that for a second--an ambitious, workaholic snob doesn't want anything for himself--he just wants things for his kids.  And even when he wants to do stuff for his job--like, for example, raise his logic skill--he wants to do it with his kids.  He wants to play chess with his son.

And his kids, man, they are so messed up.  I tried to make them normal, I really did, but I don't know how.  Melanie is a cute kid--she's adventurous, loves the outdoors, and has a good sense of humor.  Sounds about average, right?  But Melanie doesn't play with toys or anything like that--instead, she goes fishing. By herself.  Before the sun gets up.  And she takes her girl scouting like, super seriously.  Because that's the kind of person Melanie Dress is.   And Harry, good lord.  Harry Dress is excitable, brave, and good, but he doesn't have any friends and every time he tries to make friends, something goes wrong.  So the only people he really talks to are his older sister, who he's super close to, and his imaginary friend, Rags.  And at this point?  He doesn't want to make friends--he just wants to spend time with his sister.

Comparetively, here is Eliza Dress's day: she wakes up around 7 and makes breakfast for her kids.  She takes a bath.  Then she packs up her guitar and goes busking in the park.  Depending on how much money she's making, she'll either go home at four and cook dinner, or she'll let Bart cook.  After dinner, she'll either go out to moonlight as a mixologist and get some tips playing guitar at the bar, or she'll practice playing the piano.  She doesn't interact with her kids; instead, she just throws herself into her music, because it's the only thing that makes her happy anymore.  She and Bart don't talk--they just sleep together side by side, without touching.

Eliza currently wants to have an affair with a cute guy she met in the park, and I think I'm going to let her.  My original plan was to give Eliza custody of the kids in this impending messy divorce, but I don't think I can do it.  Bart may be a workaholic, but he loves his kids.  He makes time for them.

Which is more than their rockstar mom can say.

/sobs forever.

In other news, trying to find a job is the most disheartening experience ever.  I have applied, and applied, and applied, and so far, heard nothing.  I have pimped my resume out to everyone I know, asking for advice/critisms, and the only way I know to make it any better would be to lie on it.  It's put me in an awful funk these past few weeks.  I haven't wanted to do anything, much less write.

Anyone got any funny stories/cute gifs/advice they want to share?  I could use cheering up. >.<
