So Sunday. We were set to check out at one. On our expedition through Asheville Saturday, we stumbled across a few Bank Of Americas. That is my bank, and being that James and I have bills that need to be paid, depositing my paycheck directly into my own bank ATM would definitely be a help in that respect. So the plan was that Mike, James and I would get up before checkout and take the RV into town and get that done before checkout. We had the trailer unhitched for Saturday so after we returned from town, we’d have to re-attach and head on to the new destination. Well this is where the “excitement” begins.
We headed out into Asheville again at probably 11:45am. The problems began when we couldn’t locate the big BofA that we had walked by a bunch. We knew we were in the right vicinity, but town roads being what they are there; small, tight, one ways, etc., it was hard to navigate to it. Finally we got to it, and as I go to the ATM, it’s out of service. It would figure, after all that. So now we were going to try and find the other BofA we had seen, but we were even less sure where that was and we were running low on time. Well, in the midst of this, due to someone’s stupidity and my own misjudgement… I ended up scratching the side of the RV and breaking a corner of the passenger side rear view mirror. Nothing horrible, but enough to throw off my mentality for the day. I was really afraid that Phil was going to rip my head off for this, as it was my fault, and there was damage, even if it wasn’t major. It didn’t hinder the drivability of the RV, no one got hurt, but still, I was worried, pissed, whatever descriptor you could insert there. Ironically enough on the way out of the town we found another BofA that we hadn’t seen until then, that we had passed right by on the way in. More importantly, it’s ATM worked.
So we headed back to the hotel, I told Phil of the incident and damage, and he took to it well. Better than I expected I must say. I guess it could be attested to the fact that I have assisted him immensely with things so far on the tour. Also maybe because I was straightforward and honest about it. We hitched the trailer back up, and we moved on out.
Our next stop was further north in NC, in Mt. Airy. Mt. Airy is right next to Mayberry NC which is where Andy Griffith is from and where his show took place. The drive up didn’t take as long as expected. Phil started the trek and then Mike took over shortly after. Lastly I had the wheel , to our hotel, which was a Hampton Inn. For the record, Hampton Inns are awesome, especially the beds. We got checked in, and our room was AWESOME!!! The room was huge, very classy, flat screen HDTV, etc. And to our happiness…INTERNET!!! (It was a long week without it!)
After checking in, we all kinda split up for food before loading in the next school. There were some different food places right nearby. James headed to Papa Johns, Mike and Phil went to Subway, and Theresa and I went to Long John Silvers. (Yay for Malt Vinegar). Then at 8:30 we met up with Kelly, the SRO for the schools we were to be playing tomorrow. He filled us in on some Andy Griffith history and such, then we headed to Mount Airy Middle School to setup. I changed the strings and did a quick setup/once over on one of Phil’s guitars, and we did a little rehearsal as well. This ended up running till about 11:30 or so, and as usual, we had an early day ahead of us. Unfortunately this meant very little time in the nicest room we’d been in so far. When we got back, I did some updating and bill paying online and such and then beddy bye for just a few hours. Let week 3 begin :-)
