As an Illinois state senator, Barack Obama twice opposed legislation to define as "persons" babies who survive late-term abortions. [...] Mr. Obama said in a speech on the Illinois Senate floor that he could not accept that babies wholly emerged from their mother's wombs are "persons," and thus deserving of equal protection under the Constitution's ( Read more... )

Obama gets Kratos slapped! kawaiiranchan June 6 2008, 06:15:48 UTC
Ummm... this may sound like a very stupid question, Jake, but I'm going to ask it anyway. Does this man see C-sections as giving birth or having an abortion?! The reason why I ask this is because if an infant who was supposed to be aborted survives at that point pretty much went through the same proceedure that Anna went through. I'm guessing that at late term abortions they are taken out through the belly and not through the birth canal.

As a mother, this scares the living shit out of me. It's not that I'm against the freedom of choice, I just don't see why it should be mandated by law. I can't fathom actually killing a baby inside me. If I am pregnant, it's because I either wasn't paying attention OR because I was trying to be. Either way, that's my baby, and it's a part of me. Hell, at first, Ma was trying to convince me to abort Anna. Think of where we'd be without her now! People are way too selfish...

After learning a few things here and there about Obama, I'm not going to vote this year. Fuck it.

I guess if the mother doesn't want it and was trying to abort it, a fetus shouldn't be counted as a child when it's accidentally born alive. That's where Obama seems to draw the line... which actually makes him, as I understand it, more pro-choice than NARAL.

The Washington Post has never struck me as particularly right-wing (and quite frankly the Wall Street Journal's opinion page is the only thing about THAT paper that leans right), but I've found out that the Post also had a story about this, way back in April.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/04/01/AR2008040102197.html

So this isn't just one article by one lucky redneck pseudo-intellectual who got published in the WSJ.
