Shueisha/APPP to quit selling JOJO'S BIZARRE ADVENTURE on DVD in Middle East

Apparently, there's a scene in which Dio Brando (is he the main villain, Eric? I haven't read it) reads from a book in Arabic while ordering a hit on someone. The animators couldn't read Arabic, so they copied off the only book in Arabic that they had access to - the Koran.

Cue Muslim outrage across hundreds of Internet forums, and Shueisha issuing a gargantuan bootlick of an apology and promising to remove the series from the market. I'm guessing there were a few death threats involved.

Quote from the website I linked to: This news story will probably make manga/anime creators think twice before they dare make mention of anything related to Islam, especially those working with Shueisha. It’s even possible that things will become more like Europe and the United States, where many cartoonists have been scared into avoiding such topics.

Free speech for me but not for thee.

You know, the Christians seem to have an outlet for their moral outrage that the Muslims don't. If I insult a Christian, it's entirely possible that he'll simply forgive me.

If I insult a Muslim, no such luck - an unfortunately large sector of the Muslim world tends to respond to jokes about their religion in ways that make even the most rabid Christian fundamentalists look like lambs in comparison. I don't remember the last time anybody got a limb or a head chopped off for making a Jesus joke...
