Okay, HERE is my problem with socialized medicine

Essentially, I've finally figured out what is is that makes me so damned uneasy about the prospect of public healthcare, provided by the federal government...

IT'D BE PROVIDED BY THE FUCKING FEDERAL GOVERNMENT.

Seriously. You really want me to put my physical health in the hands of the same people responsible for the IRS, the DHS, the EPA, the DEA, ATF, HUD, and the nine billion other alphabet-soup bureaucracies that make life in this fucking country a million times more complicated and irritating than it has to be?

Although I guess I can see the point - what the hell, it's just a little red tape, a few dozen dollars extra on your taxes, and some other government agency with a cutesy three-letter acronym you need to remember. It's not like any government agency has ever fucked anything up royally - what the hell, let's give them a chance at providing our healthcare, how bad could it possibly be?? At least we won't have to pay another single dime to those douchebags at the HMOs.

Besides, I'd be proud - proud, I tell you! - to see these fine Beltway gentlemen handling medical provisioning for civilians, since they're doing such a wonderful job taking care of our veterans. They've been in charge of the VA for the last thirty years, so I'm sure they know all there is to know by now about how to run a healthcare bureaucracy cheaply, efficiently, and competently.
