You know that I am on vacation when you see me eating at a McDonald's. I have been in SoCal since Friday to see my Sweet Baboo. We have been having a fab time. Matt just turned 21 this year so he has never been to the gay bars near his parents' home. Okay well, "Near" is relative. As you know everything in the LA area is twenty miles away from everything else. It's kind of like visiting Nebraska in that sense. You can't even walk to the corner store.
Yesterday we had breakfast in West Hollywood at a place that brings you a basket of tiny muffins and croissant instead of bread when you sit down. I like how the food down here is slightly cheaper than at home!:)We walked around the nominally gay neighborhood after breakfast and found a book store where I purchased issue 43 of 100% Beef, a bear porn mag. Why? Beacause my sexy-wexy boyfriend has a spread in it. Delicious. We went miniature golfing in the afternoon in the baking dessert sun and then napped contentedly for a couple hours before going to check out a couple bars. One was in Long Beach. I had heard that LB was a cool place but it looked like one giant strip mall divided into sections by transmission and body shops. We drove around for a half hour looking for a place to have dinner. The only place that made this vegetarian feel even half way comfortable was an El Torito. Placed on the table behind the margarita menu was a nutrition guide that laid out the calories, saturated fat and sodium content of everything on the menu. HOLY JESUS! Almost everything was well over 1000 calories and several items contained thousands of milligrams of sodium. I think the winner for most saturated fat was a beef quesadilla with 40 grams. Even my grilled vegetable fajitas came with a cheese stuffed pepper sitting on top, was over 900 calories and was close to the top on the sodium scale. We washed our deadly dinners down with fruit flavored margaritas.
The most entertaining things about Pistons was the Edible Arrangement that they had laid out for everyone and that Kill Bill Part 1 was playing on all of the TVs. We had a few beers and then drove into LA proper to visit the Eagle. Much more happening there. Matt made friends in the usual manner, face first and I flirted with a bar back who looked and smelled like a minotaur. We ran into a couple of familiar faces from SF and chatted for a while.
As we drove home skyrockets blossomed on either side of the 605.
Tomorrow we go camping.
