Interesting thing...

So a friend of mine (older lady) just broke up with her boyfriend who she was madly in love with. Both are awesome awesome Godly people and I was sad to see it happen, but understood. So the interesting part is "Why" they broke up. Well! They had been going to her church and he was more and more uncomfortable with her church and what they taught and finally said that he could not go there any more, explained why, and asked her to agree with him. Where he was having problems was with three issues:
1. Her church had a problem with the Catholic church and its doctrines. I don't know what his personal beliefs are, but he definitely has a problem with other churches having a problem with the Catholic church.
2. Her church was very much so Calvinistic. In that it teaches that it is the elect who are saved and that once save always saved, and he strongly disagrees with that.
3. (the breaker of their relationship) Her church teaches a literal fire burning hell which he disagrees with (I don't know what he specifically believes).

Anyways. I've only met the man once, amazing guy. He used to be a pastor and we talked at length about a number of doctrinal issues since he knew that Krista and I have been looking for a church. He was Really smart. I don't know enough to agree or disagree with him on some of his points, but I can understand his point of view and her's and why they broke up.

But it got me thinking about me and Krista and where we agree or disagree and do we know enough to agree or disagree. We are talking about now doing our own little bible study and finding out why we believe what we believe and where we differ and where we agree. We both aren't good at doing bible studies together. I think we come in with too many expectations and we are both too often disappointed. But we'll see this time. It'd be a neat study anyways.
