Supernatural 1x15

I finally got around to watching "The Benders" tonight, and the first thing that sprang to my mind was the legend of Sawney Bean. I checked the WB site to see if they mentioned the legend at all and found nary a whisper, but, on the other hand, explicit cannibalism and incestous relationships that produce thirty-some children is a bit racy for their intended audience.

The site instead references the numerous "man is the greatest prey" stories, and I have to say that I really like their take on it in this episode. Other versions of the story that I've seen involve people being the best prey because they're more intelligent than animals and hence more of a challenge; while this is certainly true for some people, you only have to look at how Jenkins fared in this episode (and he lasted considerably longer than, say, I would) to see where the theory falls apart. When the father began rhapsodizing about hunting people, though, he cared more about seeing the expressions on their faces as they died, and that is a lot more plausible an explanation to me for why this family might still be getting their kicks off of their weird little hobby after all the years that they've been pursuing it.
