The Nissan salesman was a knob.
I spent probably, oh, 3 or 4 hours on the phone between him and insurance this week. To lease a car.
Normally, leasing is simple. You test drive, sign a credit check, talk to the insurance company, and sign a lease.
This guy stopped to help another customer the first night, when he was supposed to be getting the car for a test drive. Then, I had to go back in on Tuesday to sign the credit authorization. He left me alone, at his desk, for more than 20 minutes while he went outside and did God only knows what...only to return and tell me I didn't have to wait, because they have all of my information. Hello? Could you not have told me that before you left me there?
He wouldn't stop bugging me, seemed to call every day...but it took him a good 2-3 days to get me the info I needed. I asked for the VIN (for insurance); he sent me a sheet that had the options and cost for lease. I finally got the VIN yesterday, after e-mailing and calling him again.
Throw into the mess that our insurance company was closed due to the storm, so I had to deal with the 800 number, rather than local agent. I will say, Safeco rocks like AAA never did. They switched everything in seconds, and did it correctly on the first try (which never happened with AAA).
I get home from work 3 hours later, and numbnuts calls again; he gave me the wrong VIN, but he'll call Safeco for me. A half hour later, he leaves me a vm saying I need to call my insurance company before 5 p.m. Friday.
I was so pissed I called and left him a voicemail at 11:30 p.m. last night to forget it. I said that it had been nothing but a hassle since day one, and if I had to deal with that dealership and their hassles for the next three years, it wasn't worth it. I didn't even get into that there was no way in hell I wanted him to get my commission.
So today I went to the Chevy dealership down the road. I had a very nice saleswoman, and it turns out the dealership is also owned by a woman. I drove and will be leasing a 2008 Malibu 2LT in the shade of "Red Jewel". It's not quite as nice as the Altima, and is costing me a bit more a month even with my supplier discount, but I feel much better about my choice.
My first American car in 8-9 years. Hope it restores my faith. :)
