Job Interview

Just returned home from my job interview with NVSD#44 (school district). I was interviewed by Murray White (my former VP) and I think it went okay. I mean, my experiences were all great learning experiences. My cover letter mentioned "hard working" and he said that teaching wasn't necessarily hard work, and I said I didn't mean it in that sense. I meant it in a good way - where I am willing to go the extra mile to help my students, and to prepare to the best of my abilities, creating fun activites, etc. Then he understood and when "oh". I didn't mean hard work in a bad way. In fact, I think working hard is a good thing because I'm putting in this effort in hopes that the students will benefit from it.

We also talked about disciplinary issues - I had very little, so it took some thought to come up with one. And I did. I believed that I resolved the issue the best way I could, and let the students know that I meant business. It was a great learning experience for me.

The only thing I was unable to come up with was 5 words to describe myself as a teacher. I came up with 4. Coming up with 5 on the spot was hard, although I think I did more then that when I was talking about my experiences of my practicum.

I hope I get the TOC position. *fingers crossed* He said I should know in under 2 weeks. *prays hard*

Edited to Add: Did I mention that we didn't have enough time? We didn't get through all the questions on the list that he had. But he did ask the major ones. I was dissapointed he skipped out on the one about what book I've read recently. Instead, he asked about what I've read in the news lately about teachers, and that was loaded, considering there was a contract/strike talk. I did manage to spin it my way - that regardless of how people saw teachers, I wanted to teach because I enjoyed it and wanted to help people. I didn't care that people thought teachers didn't deserve a raise. I'm doing it because I want to.

long practicum, b.ed, me stuff
