Thursday February 12th
We went along to the Twestival held at the Syncamore club in Temple bar. This club is pretty cool it has an open air roof area that still has walls and just an open oval shaped sky, it took us a few seconds to realise we were outside. The twestival was a party of twitter users, getting together to raise money for the charity Water. There was also a funny photo booth set up and lots of mischievous photos were taken.

Exploding Faces Friday February 13th
Friday was a strange day... Had a call from a recruiter which was interesting, they still had my resume on file from January 2008, who knew they actually did that! That night I met Jan at the Science Gallery, one of our favourite hangouts. They have a great deal on Fridays, Aperitivo!, you get a plate of Italian treats with a purchase of a drink. It's a great deal and yumm. We got to chat about our week gone by and started to plan a little trip for April. The gallery had an exhibition Light Waves which was very cool and was also interactive. Our favourite exhibit was a set of balls that you could tune to different sounds, when you put them near other balls with sound input they lit up. There was also a spark machine which was rusting inside so quickly. One room was set up with heat sensors then big orange lights would follow us around the room. So much to play with, we had a great time. Downstairs there was a wall that you shone a torch on and it would show patterns, you could shine the torch off the side on a face then the pattern would change. The most technical exhibit was a globe made up of lights that could display images e.g. a map of the globe or spinning writing.
Saturday February 14th
I'm still going strong with my WiiFit, I did about an hour this morning. I came up to my office later on and found Jan had left me a valentines card, cute! We had brunch in town at Brambles in the Jerves center. We did a couple of hours window shopping pointing out things we like to each other.
Next we went to the Bodies Exhibition. I didn't know too much about biology so it was so interesting, we spent about two hours in there, reading all the information, checking out all the preserved human parts. My favourite bits were the nerve and vein models where they solidify the vessels then melt away the rest of the body! It was interesting to see the diseased organs as well, I'm not sure if any of it was life changing but I can now picture what I'm doing to my body when I smoke or drink too much.
We then did some actual shopping, I bought an exercise mat, three travel books, new shoes and a bunch of groceries including steak for our Valentines dinner. Back at home I relaxed in a bath with my magazines and Jan cooked up a feast, steak with pepper sauce, veges, roast potato. I came down to see he'd set up the dining room with a candle and the red wine was breathing. We watched some TV and movies and we ate the delicious desert, creme Catalana Jan had also made from scratch, I'm spoiled!
Sunday February 15th
Another hour on the Wii fit and we watched some shows and caught up on home computer stuff. After a simple lunch we made our way an hour south to Dun Drum. The boys at work had told me there was a fancy shopping center down here, but as I hopped off the luas all I could see was a set of run down shops, I was wondering about the boys taste. However further up the road we found the real 'shopping experience' We spent quite a few hours wandering around the shops, there were quite a few freebies set up for Valentines weekend, free beauty treatments, we got a free love potion smoothie, and Jan had some cake from one clothing store. We always like looking at the latest Electronics like huge LCD TVs and we checked out Game and HMV and the book stores, hours of fun. We had dinner at Nandos, Portugese chilli chicken burgers, it wasn't as yum as ones in Australia but it was a nice meal, the restaurant is nicely decorated too and there's good service. After that we spent an hour walking around Hamleys a giant toy store, that was so much fun, there were demos all around too, blow your own balloon paste, magic card tricks, guns to shoot into targets, some staff were dressed up as well, they blew bubbles around us. Childish glee.
The reason we came so far south was to see Coraline 3D as part of the Irish film festival. The film was very cool, we wore 3D glasses and the effect was awesome and simple all at once. The movie itself was lovely, about a young girl who in her new home discovers a door that leads to another world. She finds her other mother and father who actually pay attention to her. After the movie the author of the book Coraline Niel Gaiman was there to tell us about the movie making process and what other projects he's involved in these days. We really wanted to ask what else he's writing, WRITE MORE NIEL!
Luckily we made it home all by public transport and we were very late to bed.
