Turns out that England's best hope for the World Cup next month will be injured.
For those of you who don't follow soccer, Wayne Rooney is this country's 20-year-old answer to someone like our Mario Lemieux. Not the greatest player ever, but the best they have, and a significant talent. I've been following the BBC's coverage for about a month, as the nation waited for word on their injured hero. Looks like preliminary hopes have given way to the reality of fractured metatarsals.
Why am I taking this so bad? LOL. I've turned into a flag waving (actually have my own England flag) 'football' fan. England will still be a great team, but minus their best player. At least for the first 3 games, and probably more.
Dave, your thoughts on this? I was sure he was going to play, fit or unfit. Have you been following too?
