New Falcons vs. old falcons

Friday morning I walked into my mews to put the birds out to weather as I do every day. My Gyr Prairie hybrid tiercel killed and ate the head of my new Sakret. I've had birds kill other birds before...it happens from time to time.. it shouldn't. Both birds were tethered and there was a wall seperating them aswell. Two years ago one of my hawks, a harris hawk, that I'd had for seven years broke through that wall only to be killed and eaten by my red tailed hawk. I thought I'd repaired that break well enough that birds wouldn't get through....I was wrong. And as both birds were tethered to their respective perches and the mew the sakret was in was very dark (keeping him nice and calm) I didn't think there would be any danger. I was FAR more worried about other things like oppossums and raccoons digging into the mews. They have before to kill pigeons I used to keep for my falcons. I'm really upset with myself. I was doing great with five birds. I had the greatest luck in procuring the two sakers. I had grand plans of breeding the two in a couple of years. It will be impossible to replace him this year, and perhaps next aswell. This bird was only about 85 days old. He was feather perfect and flying the length of my yard perfectly. While I still have four other birds to work, feel to angry with myself to enjoy it. Hind sight is always 20/20. This will not happen again. On an odd side note, a few days ago, My friends dog was let out into his appartment by a roommate... the dog killed his girlfriends parrot. if these things come in threes, I'm wooried to see the third bird death.
