poetry class work

We had to write a poem last week and then we received critique from a fellow classmate and did a final draft. I just finished my final and based on his crticisms I think I created a pretty damn good poem....

Final Fitting

The black leather recently polished to shine
With the Laces tied awkwardly
by a set of foreign fingers.
Although the shoes are quite
old they show little wear.
Not worn often, but set aside
for the best of dress.
They have been there for the weddings
Where they danced with family.
Feeling the weight of a five year old
As she stood upon them
Laughing as she is twirled about the floor.
The same granddaughter that they waited on
In the hall of the hospital to be born.
Just like they did on four other occasions.
They remember those days and the tears
That fell in joy beside them on the ground.
Tears like those present again
In times of sadness during
Heartfelt goodbyes to loved ones and friends.
Now fitting snugger than 15 years ago
This is the last event to be
On display for.
A difference this time as
They feel no pain.
There is no weight of Walking,
but instead a departure
in relaxed stillness on
feet so familiar.

okay so the poem was supposed to be about shoes worn by a dead person
