so April and I lay out our clothes last night, get a good night's sleep- get up, get ready. Mom shows up on time. We make the long drive out to Fort Worth for the funeral.
Two days ago, my aunt Kit tells my mom and Kit's mom, Miss R, that she was not going to allow anyone to view the body. Miss R and my mom both react and say that they both would really like to view the body. Kit says "Ok, just show up 10 minutes till 3 and you can see her then and funeral processions will continue at 3"
Miss R gets a newspaper and reads in the obit that "the family will be receiving family and friends at 2". So needless to say, Kit lied to my mom and her own mother about the time and about the fact that she was going to allow them to see her.
We arrive at 1:20, to see Kit, her husband Steve, and my cousin, Glenn- all viewing Amber. We could catch glimpses of her from the hallway looking into the room where her body lie.
she looked like shit
I have NEVER before, not when I worked in a funeral home, nor all the funerals I've ever attended seen such a terrible job. The embalming was terrible, the make-up made her look like some drugged-up prostitue, and ugh! It was ludicrous.
So Miss R, my mom, April, and I are still in the hallway.
Miss R is standing in the doorway and she starts growing weak in the knees and proceeds to go into the room to sit down or to get a better look at Amber, one or the other. Kit sees us and her mother walking into the room and starts glaring... I mean giving all sorts of 'go to hell' and 'you will die now' looks... it was bad.
My mom sees this, walks into the room towards Kit and her family (which is now joined by some woman named Loli, whom I'd never met before the news of Amber's death, but for some reason she's allowed to view the body). As soon as my mom walks up closer to the casket and Kit, Kit starts to pick a fight with either my mom or her mother through my mom... starts ranting about how Miss R had only seen Amber three times in her life (Miss R claims that this is proposterous). So my mom grabs the sheet music and cd's that Kit had asked her to bring for the funeral and announces to April and me that we're leaving.
We get back in the car and drive back to our apartment. They got in my mom's car and drove back to her house.
The end.
So much for closure...
I'm so mad I can't see straight
