I tear up when I get frustrated or depressed.  Thank you, mother, for not alleviating the situation any but, rather, aggravating it without even trying.

I know that 14 credits is the minimum recommended.  Trust me, I know.  It's why I have not yet dropped the music history course.  I don't want to only have 14 credits, but I don't think I can do ( Read more... )

oh tiffy, i wish i had some words of wisdom to impart to you, but the truth is, i feel the same way very very often.

now, here's something really impt: college isn't just about the school work. you learn a lot of life skills during college, and one of those skills is learning your limits. so, it really depends on what you want to do this semester. i know that whatever you decide, you're going to want to do a good job and you will. but also take into consideration if you want to hang out w/ friends or do extracurricular things.

last semester, i took on too much to do. i was feeling like i was slacking off and not being a real music major, so in addition to the required courses, i took an elective course on accompaniment, an extra chamber group, and accompanying a girl's senior recital. i finished everything, but i also realized that it was too much, and i couldn't do all that work with the amount of dedication i wanted to put in. so now i know my limits. and i also know that i should never volunteer myself to accompany someone's senior recital until i am waaay better at sightreading.

but also, if you think that taking more credits will be too much for you, don't force yourself. it doesn't matter what others think. i mean, yes, your mom wants what's best for you, but she doesn't understand your work load the way you do. you know what's best. and if you end up not taking extra credits and being fine, that's great. or if you don't take the extra credits and are bored, then you know you can do more next semester.

make a list. or think about your experiences with your workload last semester. or you can ask upperclassmen who've taken those courses before how the workload is. you can also always ask me for help with m. history if you need it.

as for everything else, we'll talk some time about it all. :) i have faith in you, tiffy.

lots of love,

I'm afraid I won't finish in four years. I probably need about 16-17 credits per semester to finish in four years, but the maximum they recommend (and it's my cut-off in the web registration) is 18 credits.
