last night was utterly amazing.
i picked jill up and we drove down to modified...got lost once or twice...good times. parked right next to this car full of guys who were just sitting listening to the radio. and we didn't want to go in yet, so we sat on the hood of my car, listening to the music coming from their windows. talking about guys, our lives, what was going on with us. and every so often, the guy in the drivers seat next to us would sing along loudly with the radio and i'd turn to jill and say "that guy sings along with his radio. he's awesome. i'm going to marry him."
i was sitting there saying to jill that there was no way i'd meet anyone awesome at this concert because for some reason these things don't happen to me, when the guy singing along with the radio yelled over and asked us if we had gum.
being the friendly person that i am, i jumped off my trunk and started rooting around in my purse...unfortunately all i had was a packet of mustard...which the guy in the passenger seat graciously accepted, mustard being his favorite condiment.
introductions were passed around. the driver's seat singer was phil. the passenger seat was felix. the two kids in the back were very quiet and i maybe saw their faces once or twice, but they were corey and....um...steve. yes. that was his name. ages were exchanged, and we all are about the same age....hahah phil lied about his age until he found out how old i was and then he told me how old he really was. only 3 months older. how interesting...
eventually they got out of their cars, and we decided to sit there chatting to each other. i was excited and fluttering around and saying things like "super". we all decided to be friends and exchanged phone numbers. in the meantime, phil and i were deciding what music to play in the car and talking about our favorite songs and who was going to visit who....they live in yuma, these kids.
the very nice-looking emo kid style that phil had was beginning to interest me, and talking to him made me laugh, so we took a little walk and bought some minus the bear merch, and left jill to talk to felix. apparently they got on quite well.
minus the bear finally got to the stage, and we went in as they were setting up. they played a perfect set, and the lighting and the atmosphere of modified was perfect for them. suffice it to say that this was one of the best shows of my life. in the middle of the set, phil turned to me and said something like "i wish i was up there." and so i grabbed his hand and pulled him with me to the front. and we stood up there 5 feet from the band, literally, and let the music take everything away.
they ended with absinthe party at the fly honey warehouse. it couldn't have been better. the perfect song to end with, actually. apparently it was phil's favorite. i like the song too, it' awesome. i just wished they'd have played i lost all my money at the cockfights. but i loved everything else. and i got all the cds i didn't have except one. and that one i'm supposedly going to borrow from phil...awesometastic.
i knew the best things that happened to me happened in the fall and winter. i went to one of the best shows i'v ever been to, met some kids that i really liked, made an interesting new friend who has possibilities, and had a great time with my friend jill. i so reverse-jinxed myself. this winter will be great.
a perfect night.
