Tiny rolls of victory

Mar 22, 2008 18:19

Just finished dinner, the result of my sister and myself collaborating to make sushi. Veggie rolls, California rolls, Philly Rolls, Thousand Island Rolls and an assortment with prawns and/or smoked salmon. Probably ~50-60 pieces for a family of four and we had leftovers.

A picture shall follow, but we considered that a most tasty victory.

Tasty. Ever since I started eating fish again, I've been in love with Philly rolls. I know they're not "proper" Japanese sushi, but they're so good that I don't care. So craving sushi right now!

Sushi good? I've never tried it, kinda scared to do so in case I don't like it and waste a lot of money. And my many weird allergies. Recommend one type for the newbie? ;)

Sushi is quite good, though I would have to know all of your allergies to make recommendations. If cream cheese and smoked salmon is ok, then a Philly roll is definitely tasty. I would start off with veggie sushi rather then the variety with raw fish. Generally, go with someone who knows/likes sushi and you should be good.

And beware of the wasabi (green paste). It's excellent but bloody potent and clears the sinuses like nobodies business.

I am an untrained wuss so I stuck to safe stuff rather then raw fish. Had some prawns and some excellent smoked pacific salmon, but nothing requiring much in the way of skill to pick out.
