Okay, I always wash my hands before i play my guitar, but still after a time the strings pick up that bad metal smell, so I get a hot damp clothe and wipe them down, and it goes away.
Is this a no no? Are there other ways?

i do the same with my strings. i've never thought to smell them though. and i can't see why a hot cloth would be bad...
