So, the 45 minute tour turned into over an our tour of Honan Chapel at the University (in Cork.) The lady talked a lot, but she enjoyed it (she did her Ph. D. on this building.) It got tiring, and I zoned out a lot. It was neat how each column had its own pattern of engraving (well, there was some duplication but in no order.)
Then, we quickly ate our lunches and took a walk to the Cork Printmakers, where we learned about making prints (several different ways). It was pretty interesting. Then, our professor told us how to get back to the bus station. We walked through a shopping area, so I stopped at a couple stores to look for a watch (no luck).
So, as I'm coming upon the corner where I am to turn, a scraggly, dirty old man said hello to me, so I said hi back. He asked if I'd do him a favor, and I asked him what he wanted. He asked me to go to tea, and, literally, I had a bus to catch! I apologized and told him I had a bus to catch. He muttered something about me being an American.
These guys were leaning up against the storefront, smoking cigarettes, and one said something to me (about the man), but I couldn't understand. I said "What?" and he repeated himself. I still couldn't understand him, so I shrugged and walked off.
Bizarre.
I went to the doctor today downtown, because I'm pretty sure I have a yeast infection (fun, huh?). I took the bus down there and had the appointment. Well, I tried three different pharmacies downtown, and none of them had the prescription in stock. So, I just decided to go to a pharmacy in Castletroy, near campus. While I was downtown, I decided to go to the grocery store for batteries and a notebook and got those. Also, I've been looking for a watch, so I went to Claire's and got one. I still need to set it.
Then, I was waiting for the bus, and a man started talking to me and asking me questions. I talked to him although I had trouble catching everything he was saying. The one word I heard very clearly (and repeatedly) was "fucking". He said the streets are about the same, having shops, but the names are all different. I think he mentioned how it has become about the same as London (storewise). It was odd.
After I got off the bus to campus, I went to find reception to ask where a pharmacy was nearby. The lady told me. I went to eat lunch quickly and to the pharmacy, and they had it in stock! I got back around 3, and sat in on the second half of my 2-4 class (I missed the last half of the morning class, too.)
The library is closing soon, so that's all for now.
Class tomorrow, and Dublin Friday.
