Chapter 11
“What?” Jung Yunho uttered. “What do you mean your little sister has disappeared? You mean-”
“Yes!” I cried out, stubbornly fighting the tears from falling, but a lone tear dropped down my cheek and was swallowed up in the fabric of Jung Yunho’s clothes.
His hold tightened and I rubbed my face against his chest, my knees trembled hard and I had fallen down if Jung Yunho hadn’t held me. I let out a whimper and my teeth sank down into my bottom lip in utter frustration. I did not want to cry, I did not want to!
Jung Yunho lowered me to the ground and then undid the knots on my back, my arms falling lifelessly to my sides after my hands were freed. I sagged down, but was pulled up by Jung Yunho, his hands moving past my armpits and he then hitched me up; back onto my feet again. I looked down at him when he crouched and undid his boots. My bottom lip trembled as it was jutted out and I tried to pathetically hold back my sobs, but Jung Yunho pretended to pay no attention to me as he put his boots at the side of the entrance and then stared at me again. He lifted me up, one of his arms around my waist and the other under my knees. I let out a quiet yelp when he carried me further into his room.
He lowered me onto his futon and urged me to get rid of my sandals, he then threw them across the room where they smashed against the door with soft thuds. He shifted his gaze onto me after the footwear had safely landed and his hand palm cupped my cheek tenderly. He pressed a lingering kiss on my forehead and I let out a staggered sob. He sat closely next to me and he pulled me close, his arm around my shoulder. His thumb stroked my upper arm leisurely.
It had been silent for quite a while, until he asked me, “When did she vanish exactly?”
I swallowed once before replying, hoping my voice wouldn’t tremble. “After I left home in the morning, but before Mother woke up.”
“We will find her, Jaejoong-ssi,” Jung Yunho said firmly. “Believe in that.”

By now the world was far into the night and it was already early in the morning when the two of us found ourselves dozing off. Our positions had changed and we were curled up together on Jung Yunho’s soft futon. I crept closer to Jung Yunho’s warm body and his arm accommodated my shifting welcomingly. I buried my head in the crook of his neck and inhaled deeply; his dangerous spices arousing the fluttering things in my belly. The clenching remained on the background of my thoughts though, for I was too worried and tired of what had happened.
Jung Yunho’s slim fingers were tangled into my long hair and his touches made my hair feel as soft as silk. I let out a quiet sigh and let myself focus on the leisure movements of his fingers.
The last thing my brain paid attention to were Jung Yunho’s words, “I will protect you, my Jaejoong-ssi, so rest well…”

“Jung Yunho-ssi?” I called him. I had hesitated for a while, but I had taken up so much time already by nothing but moving about restlessly.
“What is it? Does it fit?”
I fidgeted with the strings again and heaved out a sigh. “I have no idea…”
Jung Yunho entered the room and he chuckled when he saw me fighting the uniform. Yes, uniform.
Whilst having breakfast, Jung Yunho had insisted that I should be part of the group of men who searched for the truth of the disappearances and I had nodded my head, because - of course - I would do anything to make Junmi come back. What I didn’t know though, was that I had to wear the police attire. And now I found myself struggling to wear it just fine. The uniform had so many layers and I already felt hot in these clothes from just standing still.
I pouted at him, but he swiftly tied the strings in silence and made a quick run over my body, his eyes raking from my head to my toe. I nervously stood there as I let his eyes approve of what they saw. “You look very handsome, Jaejoong-ssi,” Jung Yunho said with a smirk. “Although your waist… I have never seen someone with such a tiny waist before…”
I snorted and rolled my eyes. “Spare me your witty remarks, please.”
He chuckled and said, “It is just… your hair has to be tied in a bun.”
I stiffened. “It has to be?”
“It must.”
“Why?”
“Jaejoong-ssi…” Jung Yunho grinned.
I grumped and folded my arms over each other.
“Come on, royal pouting princess. Sit down and let me do it for you.”
With a grump I let him push me down on the futon. He kneeled behind me after he went to fetch a brush from across the room, he started to softly brush my hair and I closed my eyes while letting out a sigh.
“Why are you so opposed of having your hair out of your face?”
I bit my lower lip as I tried to stop my childish pout. “Because the shape of my head is enormous.”
He laughed full-heartily and couldn’t manage to stop in a while. “Well, sorry to disappoint you, but your head is not that huge. Did you ever look at mine? My head is too small for my body, so to an extent we match greatly.”
I rolled my eyes, but his attempt to make me feel better had succeeded. “It pleases me to know we match that perfectly, my lord.”
He pinched me in my side.
I yelped when he started to harshly pull my hair and proceeded to tie it in a small bun, my arms clutching the futon desperately as I tried to transfer the pain from my body. It felt like my forehead was pulled along! “How do you survive this daily?!”
He laughed again and stroked the back of my neck tenderly. “You will get used to it.”
I shivered from his touches and quickly got up, thanking him for helping me with my hair. It was hard to move in these clothes as they consisted of so many layers. They were also very hot and suddenly I was happy that my hair was out of my neck, so fresh air could meet my warm skin.

The next troublesome thing was that I had to ride on a horse by myself. Jung Yunho swiftly - but carefully - explained it to me and gave me useful tips.
After a while I climbed on the horse by myself and looked at Jung Yunho with a smirk as I felt very proud at that moment. He laughed at my expression and proceeded to get on his horse too.
We slowly started walking and I concentrated hard on the task, missing Jung Yunho’s longing gaze on me. It was half way our trip that I suddenly realised-
“My bow!” I shouted all of a sudden, and added quieter, “I forgot my bow and arrows. The guards took them at your place.”
We stopped the horses and Jung Yunho told me he would get them and I should hurry to my mother already, for I had left her alone for too long.
I still felt ashamed when I thought back to it. I had stormed out of our home, leaving poor Mother behind. There was no Junmi and I was not at her side either. I had failed as a son and as Jung Yunho had said: I should hurry back home.
“Will you manage on your own?” Jung Yunho inquired.
I nodded my head. “Of course, I will.”
We parted our ways and I continued down the road across the river in the forest. Firmly remaining concentrated, I did my best and I surprised myself that I started to pick up riding a horse pretty quickly.

Moments later I had arrived at home and I got off the horse, approaching the small building by feet, leading the horse along with me.
“Mother,” I called her.
“Jaejoong-dear?!” Mother’s cry was heard and she hurriedly rushed to the door. It was thrown open and she quickly approached me until she saw how I was dressed. “Jaejoong?” she asked. “What happened? Why are you wearing that?”
“Mother, I will help with the case, too,” I answered her.
“And the horse? Did you go to lord Jung Yunho-ssi?”
I nodded my head and had already decided to lie about the part why I went there. I didn’t want her to know about what had happened with those bastards and… my friendship with Jung Yunho. Mother got her hands full of worrying about Junmi.
We turned around when we heard another horse approach us, it was Jung Yunho. He got off the animal and walked closer to us. He bowed to us and we returned the gesture. “Aunt, I am sorry about the suddenness of this, but my father just informed me that people know about the truth in the north. Could I ask of you to let Jaejoong-ssi go with our group on this trip?”
They found people who knew the truth? And Jung Yunho wanted me to come with him…
I looked over at Mother. She had yet to approve.
She was silent for a while until she sternly looked at me, “I will wait here, Jaejoong-dear. I will wait for you and for the return of our Junmi.”
