So, my father, with his quirky sense of humour has always said, when I've encouraged him to get a will was, "If I'm dead, what the hell do I care what happens with the stuff, I'm dead." The subject is all the more pressing now that he actually has cancer.
In fact, my aunt had the sad realization this week, that she owned none of the property that she lives on and is not an equal partner with her husband... "All I knew is that I got up every morning for 35 years and was a teacher, and ran a dry cleaners, thinking that I was an equal owner of my stuff." NOPE

The inherited land of my uncle will pass to the children, not to the wife. Why, is this the sweet smell of patriarchy? Maybe the law reflects something of the deep structure of patriarchy, my aunt is the property of her husband, and the care of her passes to her sons.
Now, silly me I believed Virginia Woolf when she said that women have had the right to own property, etc... I forgot, English Common Law!!! This is true in the rest of the U.S. of A. But, I'm moving into Roman Civil Law!!! Louisiana!!! The last bastien.
