OK, who knew about this and didn't tell me?

This is deserving of a big ol' WTF?

So I'm checking my flist, like I do, and in an icon community I belong to, someone has posted some Sweet Valley High cover icons, and I'm trying to figure out why Jessica and Bruce are on a cover wearing matching leather jackets, so I do some wiki-ing, and what do I find? This:

And get this: not only have they polished up the cover art, they've apparently given the innards a similar kick in the pants. The school paper is a blog, the burger joint is a Mexican restaurant, and Bruce Patman has ditched his Porsche to be a pimp in his Caddy. Plots remain the same. Apparently there are six of these. I want to read them, but I'm taking a pretty strong moral stand against paying for the privilege, if we might call it that. Hard to say when they've replaced all the deliciously horrible '80s fashion with random brand names. Boo. And they took away Bruce's 1bruce1 license plate. Et tu, Random House?

ALSO! There's apparently to be a new series set in sunny Sweet Valley taking place when our favorite all-American twins are in their 20s or 30s or something. Nobody knows if this will ever actually be leaving the rumor mill, but there's suspicion that the revamp of the OS has something to do with it. And with the success of Gossip Girl.

Seriously, couple this with the rerelease of the first few Baby Sitters Club titles in graphic novel form, cutesily titled BSC Graphix (yes, let's further celebrate the de-literacy of our society), I feel like I'm living in some wonky time warp. Or maybe I'm in the mirror universe episode of my life. Wake me when we get to the sexy love interest.

Anyone who can find me a collection of Sweet Valley ebooks is my new hero.
