Seeking the Rainbow in a Storm

They say:

Look for the silver lining when you're caught in a downpour--

even with your clothes clinging to your shivering skin,

your shoes squelching with each step,

even with mud splattering up your jeans

and your hair plastering to your head.

Look for the silver lining when you've missed the bus--

even when its doors shut in front of your face,

and the next one's not due for another hour,

even when you can't afford to be late,

and you wonder if you should have yelled louder.

So you tell yourself:

Look for the silver lining when you're lost on the road--

No GPS because your phone has died.

Cars speed by with direction in sight,

but you move to the most right lane,

then pull over to the side.

Look for the silver lining when you feel envy.

Look for the silver lining when you feel angry.

Look for the silver lining when you feel jealousy.

Look for the silver lining when you feel greedy.

Look for the silver lining when you take in your broken family.

Look for the silver lining when you realize all you'll ever be is second place.

Look for the silver lining when your mother goes crazy.

Look for the silver lining when you don't ever get praised.

Look for the silver lining when your mother goes crazy again.

Look for the silver lining when all your belongings are out and you no longer have a place.

Look at the silver linings I wear across my neck like accessories.

Look at the silver linings I've woven into a mittens and scarves.

Look at the silver linings I use to hang precious memories.

Look at the silver linings I've used as stitches now fading into scars.
