mcarol85's prompt: How Yunjae brought Db5K together again. fluff/romance/humor, minimal angst please ^_^

Three months. It had been three whole months since Jaejoong had began sleeping on the bottom bunk of Yunho’s bed. They never exchanged words that weren’t necessary. Beside the basic greetings, Yunho just ignored him as if he were invisible, not even making eye contact to acknowledge his presence. To say he was pissed off by his lover and former band-mate would be a huge understatement.

The other members of the squad looked at them with perplexed expressions, not really understanding the grudge between the two singers. After a few days, they had simply assumed that the 2009 lawsuit scandal had driven a wedge between them. Jung Yunho came in a week after Jaejoong had enrolled in the 473th regiment of the ROK Army. Since celebrities joining the military had became more frequent over the years, Jaejoong had hoped to have someone he knew in the squad.

Fortunately for Jaejoong, he ended up sharing a twin bunk bed with his boyfriend of many years. But unfortunately for him, Yunho had worn his angry face 24/7 since arriving. Jaejoong had no idea what he had done wrong to offend the other; he was as clueless as any outsider who was watching them from afar.

Surely Jaejoong could confront the other and gave him a piece of his mind, but that would require them to be alone in a room, and Yunho was avoiding him like a plague. And he had to say that Yunho was quite good at it.

Today was just like any other day. Pinning Yunho with one distasteful glare, he took his food tray in one hand and his beverage in the other as he made his way toward his squad friends. He was the fifth member to sit at the table and they needed six people before they were allowed to start eating. While waiting, they chatted about some funny anecdotes of the day.

A tray was set down in the empty seat in front of Jaejoong and silence fell instantly. It was unexpected. Yet, Yunho flashed his suave smile and sat down as they said their prayer, thanking the citizens of the country for the food.

Jaejoong blinked at Yunho, anticipating a word, anything. Instead, the other man simply lowered his head and started eating. When nothing came, he lowered his head in disappointment. Damn, it hurt to be so close yet so far at the same time. He would have preferred if Yunho stopped keeping his feelings in. Then, at least, he would know what to do or say to make this whole situation better.

He shifted in his seat, trying to get away from the discomfort creeping up his back. The brief moment his knee brushed against Yunho’s leg, the hair on the nape of his neck stood up. Biting on his lower lip, he picked up his utensil and began to eat, as well. His other squad mates were too busy wolfing their own food to notice the dark tension crawling between the two of them.

He ate in silence, talking only when people were expecting him to. His mind was overloaded with wishful thoughts and that damned Coca-Cola sitting beside his tray. Since passing out while drinking too much Cola as part of a bet in middle school, Jaejoong had developed a phobia. He cursed the canteen for not preparing enough juice. Now, he had to find a way to dispose of the drink without people noticing.

Halfway through his supper, his head shot up as an empty glass was slid in front of him and his own untouched one taken away. He watched in surprise as Yunho took a small sip from the dark and sparkly soda. Something sparkled in his dark eyes and the corners of his lips twitched to contain a small smile.

Yunho was mad, but he still cared.

Before he got a chance to express his thanks, Yunho gathered his utensils and stood up to wish everyone a good evening. It took all of Jaejoong’s will power to not follow him immediately. Rather, he lingered behind a few more minutes, taking his time to finish his food.

“Are you guys going to the common room for the movie tonight?” one of them asked.

Taking this as a cue to exit, he picked up his tray. “Can’t, buddy. Night shift and I’m gonna need to catch some sleep.”

Everyone groaned at the mention of night shift and waved him away in compassion. Laughing, he left the table and walked out of the canteen after dropping his tray by the entrance. He took his time as he made his way across the base, still debating whether or not he should talk to Yunho. He would have hated it if their conservation turned into a disaster. He tried to reassure himself that it was all right for couples to fight; it was nothing out of the ordinary.

He pushed the door of the dorm room open, peeking inside. Seeing water drops lingering on the sun-kissed skin of Yunho’s muscled and taut back, Jaejoong bit back a groan. Gosh, he missed the feel of that broad back under his palms.

Taking advantage of this moment alone, Jaejoong strode toward his lover. He pressed himself against Yunho, circling his arms tightly around his waist. He could feel the heat and the wetness seeping through his T-shirt. It felt like forever since he was last allowed such intimacy. His head dipped slighted and dropped a kiss between Yunho’s shoulder blades. He sighed contentedly when Yunho didn’t shy away from his embrace.

“Thank for earlier.” He leaned in, resting his chin against his shoulder. “Cola still creeps me out even now.”

“You just shouldn’t have taken it,” Yunho scowled and he wrestled out Jaejoong’s arms. His tone came out much colder and harsher than he intended, making himself grimace a little. He forced an apologetic smile on his face when he met his boyfriend’s vexed gaze. But it wasn’t nearly enough as Jaejoong fired back.

“Fuck you!” Jaejoong cursed loudly. “Three months! You can’t just continue to give me the cold shoulder. What did I even do?”

“Now is not a good time, Jae.”

“You don’t wanna talk? Fine, why would I care?” Jaejoong harshly swung his towel around his neck and opened the top drawer of the nightstand. Taking out his cleaning kit, he slammed it shut, sending it banging against the back of the piece of furniture. Truthfully, he cared and it bothered him when Yunho kept things bottle up inside. “We went two years without talking. A few months shouldn’t be a big deal, right? What’s next? Are you going to start calling me names and throw insults at my face?”

Yunho winced at the blow, and inwardly, he felt sorry for the way he was acting. However, he didn’t want to say anything at the height of Jaejoong’s anger. The last time it happened, it was right after the news of the lawsuit broke in 2009. He accused Jaejoong of betrayal, of greed and of any another hurtful words that passed through his mind. It rocked their already unsteady relationship and he didn’t want it to revisit that dark moment of his life again. Sure, they reconciled two years later, but the aftermath continued to linger.

He still remembered those teary eyes filled with disbelief and unspeakable pain, unable to discern the cruelty of his words. And yet, Jaejoong had accepted everything as the truth despite himself. When he had turned to leave, it was the end and Yunho had too much pride to stop him.

Since then, he learned that communication was the magical solution to all problems - except when they lost their temper. Anger led to miscommunication and that led them to say words that they never meant to say in the first place.

“That’s not that I meant, Jaejoong,” he sighed deeply. He sat down on Jaejoong’s bed, reaching out for his boyfriend. The singer looked down at his hand and took at step back.

“No, that’s exactly what you meant. I’m going to shower because I can’t look at your face right now.”

Jaejoong marched away, slamming the door behind him on his way out. Yunho knew he’d better hurry to come up with the right words or he would drive Jaejoong crazy with his behaviors. Rubbing the tension out of his neck, Yunho stood up and made his way toward the shower room, too.

Jaejoong was already under the water when he entered. The waist-high stalls left pretty much everything open to view. Yunho didn’t complain. He enjoyed the sight, even though deep inside, he’d begun getting a little jealous when others complimented his lover. He leaned back against the door, watching the water run down Jaejoong’s inked back.

That beautifully designed tattoo on his upper back triggered nostalgia and a longing of sharing the same stage again. Over the past years, they’d worked hard individually and in separate groups for that day. They nursed that dream. Yunho had lost count of the number of sleepless nights he had shared with Jaejoong talking about possibilities.

Talking. Yes, that.

“Are you just going to be a creep and watch me shower?” Jaejoong turned his head a little and pinned the other singer with a hard glare.

Yunho forced himself away from the entrance and ambled toward the shower stall. He stopped right in front of it and rested his hands on top of the panel. His face was solemn, yet his eyes shone with passion as they roamed over the slim frame. Even with more muscle mass, Jaejoong still looked slender than average.

When his gaze wandered up, he coughed uneasily as he got caught being a creep again. “Sorry,” he uttered quietly.

“So we are having this conversation now?” Jaejoong asked, spinning around to face his boyfriend. “Out of all the places and all the times, it has to be when I’m completely naked?”

“99 percent of our talks were done without clothes anyway. Don’t feel so self-conscious.”

“Very funny,” Jaejoong drawled dryly.

“Yeah…” Yunho trailed off before he cleared his throat to speak. “The day before my enlistment, I received the papers and I got angry because it felt like what I say is never important.”

Now, Jaejoong understood and his face soothed into a soft smile. Those papers were their future, the one that would allow them to make music together again. Everyone knew that he had purchased a building earier this year. While most thought it was one of his personal investments, it was actually much more than that.

Those nights he spent talking with Yunho had lead them to this new business venture. JK Studio would take the top two floors and be renovated into an art school for children. But more importantly, a recording studio would be built. And maybe someday, they could venture in indie music as a quintet, away from the major entertainment company and record labels.

“Don’t be ridiculous. Of course, what you say is important.” Jaejoong stepped out from the spray. He circled his wet arms around the other man’s neck and leaned in to kiss the corner of his mouth. “And we got the loan. We can start renovating as soon as possible.”

“I don’t care about that,” Yunho grunted lowly. “It’s about the ownership of the studio. We agreed on co-ownership, 50-50.”

“And you’re pissed because I wrote down 65 under your name.”

“Yes, I mean no … I just wanted it to be ours. Don’t you think we should have discussed it first?” Yunho refuted lamely. Now that he thought back about it, it was definitely unreasonable for him to ignore his boyfriend all this time. Still, silence was a better option than him saying something clouded by anger. Besides, he was probably the only business partner in the world who would refuse a bigger share. But he really, really wanted it to be a joint-owned business, because then he could say they shared at least one thing together.

“What is there to discuss anyway? The dance studio is 65 percent of the building and you always wanted to have one of your own.”

Contrary to what Yunho thought, Jaejoong truly cared about Yunho’s words. Above all, he never thought a simple number would be such a problem. Maybe, he’d just assumed too much as always.

“Besides, who cares if it’s yours or mine, it’s just a studio. And as far as I'm concerned you're mine and I'm yours.”

“Whatever, Jaejoong. I really don’t wanna argue.” Yunho rubbed his forehead in desolation as yet another sigh left his lips. “I am not happy with it, but if it’s really what you want, then I’ll just go along with it.”

His face softened a little and his posture relaxed as he gave in. His hands left the top of the stall and found their way around Jaejoong’s waist. His icy skin touched Jaejoong’s warm body and he left his boyfriend shuddering in his embrace. The water still ran freely, forgotten by both. If their squad leader were here, they would have definitely gotten in trouble for wasting natural resources.

“Will it make you feel better if I buy back 10 percent?” Jaejoong asked as he dropped a small kiss on the taller man’s neck. Relationships were all about compromises, and sometimes it was better to simply take a step back.

“I guess.” Yunho answered, kissing the top of Jaejoong’s damp hair before pushing him back under the hot water. He glanced down at his watch and grinned. “Less than 10 minutes and we’ve already worked out our differences.”

“No, that took three fucking months!” Jaejoong scoffed, pointing accusingly at the other.

“I didn’t want a fight like the one we had back in 2009, so I did some thinking beforehand.”

“Some thinking, huh?” Jaejoong sneezed at the end of his words. His hand covered the sneer lingering on his face.

“Are you cold?” Yunho asked worried. After all, the singer had been standing bare in the chilly room for some time. He would feel guilty if Jaejoong ended up catching a cold or something.

“No, I’m just allergic to bullshit,” he answered as he spun around, facing the wall. He grabbed the shampoo bottle and squeezed a generous quantity on his hand, a habit from having longer hair most of his life. “Also, you know I can't argue with you for very long. Even with that mad face, you still manage to look hot as hell. I wonder how I’ve managed to keep my pants on all this time!”

“Technically speaking, you don’t have any pants on this time,” Yunho stated the obvious, laughing as he dodged a handful of foam that Jaejoong tried to smear on his face. The previous conflict was forgiven and forgotten.

In a blink of an eye, they were back to talking about the reunion of the five original members of TVXQ. Their project was a major one, but they weren’t sure how they would be able to do it with JYJ under C-Jes and Changmin and Yunho still under SM Entertainment. Yunho wasn’t sure if he would want to renew his contract after his current contract ended. He’d never felt corned by SM the way Jaejoong, Junsu and Yoochun had. No one was a traitor and no one was greedy. The five of them were simply different people who had different needs and wanted different career paths.

However one thing was sure, they would make music together again, one day, someday, even though the future was filled with uncertainties. Over the last years, they had shone individually, but they had shone brighter as the five stars of Cassiopeia.

JK Studio was the first step toward that stardom.
