Chapter 1 - Character and School Introduction,
Yunho really didn't want to be here... Sure he had wanted to move away, finally revel in some solitude after years spent with the same people in his seethe, and sure he needed a new place to stay and he wanted to stay there for a long time. But what the fuck went through his mind when he decided to enrol in high school. What would a 438 years old vampire learn form a 40 something teacher? Why couldn't he start a little bit older like 28 instead of the 18 he was pretending to be?
He was still pondering on his stupidity when he smelled something that made him frown. The problem was that it was mixed up with so many other odours that he couldn't pinpoint exactly what it was.
He started to look around, searching for a probable source when he saw an adult coming up to him. She was shorter than him with a pretty face that also said "don't talk nonsense to me".
"Jung Yunho?"
"Yes, Miss."
"Good. I'm Lee Hyori, the school secretary. I'll take you to my office and give you your welcome package. Then one of our students will come to give you a tour of the school."
Yunho could smell something strange on her, but it was hidden. He was still wondering what it was when he sat down in her office.
Miss Lee took 30 minutes to explain to him his courses, how to enrol for extracurricular activities and the map of the campus. Soon after she was done a student entered her office and Yunho almost hissed at the smell.
"Good morni..." The student just stopped to sneeze.
"Kim Jaejoong will show you around until midday. As you are in the same class he will be your go-to student for any question until you settle down with us." Miss Lee said, probably not feeling the mood that just settled in the office.
Yunho got up and went for the door, followed by the other student. Now Yunho could place the smell from earlier; Werewolf. In a daze they were both ushered into the corridor with a last "good luck Yunho" from Miss Lee.
Yunho felt ready to launch at the threat the other creature presented, only he didn't seem inclined to fighting and the truce between the two species had been signed since before his time. Any creature that broke the treaty would be sentenced to death. Werewolves and Vampires still couldn't stand each other but they had to play nicely.
"My name his Jaejoong and I'll be your guide." The wolf started after a while "We are in the same classes, so it'll allow us to get to know each other and I'll be able to bring you up to speed."
As soon as they were out of hearing distance Yunho spoke up.
"Can we stop pretending that we're normal students for a second? What are you doing here? I can feel that you're not as young as you seem, you're even rather old. What are you doing in high school?"
Jaejoong paused for a minute.
"You're right, I'm not that young and I don't exactly need a diploma but my pack needs an example. And if I'm here with them I can set it and keep an eye on them... Plus it's really fun to feel so normal." He said, starting serious but finishing with the grin of a 5 year old kid. "And you, what brings a night creature to a day school... actually first how do you stand it here?"
After probing the other for answers, Yunho didn't really have any other choice than to give some in return.
"I'm only half. And the part I didn't take is the sensibility to sun. I still get sunburned if I stay too long in direct sunlight but I get around easily in covered weather."
After pondering his answer, Jaejoong went on.
"Well that's good because it's cloudy pretty much all the time here... which is probably why you chose this place as well. Now let's go to our classroom before the teacher gets impatient. I'll give you a tour during lunch then if you'd like you'll meet my friends."
Yunho had no doubt that Jaejoong only used the term friend instead of pack because there were approaching a group of other students.
***
After 2 hours of class Yunho came to several conclusions:
1. Jaejoong excelled at appearing normal, being the right level of studious and funny altogether.
2. Yunho really needed to get used to being around people. He realised his interaction with the students was going to last and he needed to act human at all times, something he was not familiar with.
3. He was going to get really bored through the year.
The bell for lunch was what got him out of his thoughts. Well that and Jaejoong turning around smiling at him expectedly.
"Come o, it's time to eat."
Yunho was purposefully slow in getting his things ready and then following Jaejoong.
"Come on the cafeteria will be so full when we get there."
"You eat in the cafeteria? This close to the full moon you can still eat normally?"
"You'll see..."
They entered the line that had formed. When the chef saw Jaejoong he retrieved a platter from behind him and gave it to the wolf.
"This is Yunho, the new student. He also has an allergy; you should have one for him as well."
The chef looked at him, and seemed to suddenly get it. He handed him a tray with his name on it.
They went for a crowded table in the back; Yunho didn't understand why nobody looked funny at Jaejoong; or at least at his plate with raw beef on it.
"People this is Yunho, a new student. Yunho this is everybody."
At first Yunho only saw a bunch of normal student but his instinct told him otherwise. He could detect at least three species there; Werewolf for sure, something woody and something magical.
"Changmin, Junsu, manners!"
"Sorry, Jae" the lanky one murmured, avoiding Jaejoong's eyes, so Werewolf.
Yunho sat down next to the other one who presented himself as Junsu. He smelled like wood. Yunho deducted it must have been an elf.
In front of him sat someone build to be a werewolf, but he didn't seem like one given the way he was talking to Jaejoong. A werewolf wouldn't look so straight at another one. Everything around them stopped then. No more noise from the other tables, just like the time stopped for all but them.
"Siwon..." Jaejoong started, "What did Hyori tell you about stopping time?"
"It's easier like this. The sooner he understands, the less chance there is for problems." The one sitting in front of Yunho said.
"So you're a witch? I was wondering who smelled like magic. And Hyori? As in Secretary Lee Hyori?"
"Yes. I belong to Hyori's coven. This place is a safe haven for most of us. We all were rejected by our own community but still wanted to belong to something. She allows us to live in this world... We'd like for you to come to a small gathering tonight to learn about this place. In the mean time, please keep a low profile."
Siwon held Yunho's eyes, as if judging his reaction then the moment he lost contact the life and time restarted in the cafeteria.
The afternoon was calm; mostly learning about things he already knew, meeting some classmates, the ones brave enough to go past his natural predator aura.
After school Jaejoong didn't let him out of his sight until he promised to meet back at the school around 8 PM.
He got home, had a drink from his freezer of blood then got prepared for the evening. He really wondered if he should go like this, or should he prepare to fight. He remembered Jaejoong's face and for some reason all his hesitations flew away.
***
Yunho was back on school ground with 10 minutes to spare, looking around and opening his senses he felt two persons approach.
"Miss Lee, a great pleasure to see you?"
"Out of school you can call me Hyori like everybody else. In school I'd advise against it except if you like detention. I'm here to give you the authorisation to enter our home. If you don't my protection spells will stop you. Then Jaejoong will give you a tour and we'll meet again for you to meet everybody."
Yunho was somewhat smirking at how this explanation resembled the one from this morning but he didn't make any comments.
Hyori took his hand and drew a small symbol, most probably her coven's, on the back of it. There was no doubt she was powerful as Yunho felt her power in this small gesture alone.
They started walking toward what looked like a forest in the back of the school.
"We don't have many rules here. The most important ones are 'Respect each other' and 'Keep the secret'. This is a home for those of us who don't have a place with their own kind anymore but everyone will tell you their own story if they'd like to."
After they passed the first line of trees, they were met with light, noise and what could almost be called a small village.
Chapter 2 - The Hidden Town
Yunho followed Jaejoong along a dirt path. It was like he was a different person. Here Yunho could entirely feel Jaejoong's power as Alpha. He could also sense that there were a lot of creatures around. But if he was to be honest, most of his mind was concentrated on the man in front of him.
Jaejoong was wearing a sheer white sweater, with nothing under and Yunho couldn't get his eyes away from the spots where skin appeared. The student he met earlier was already quite alluring but the man he was following now was downright sinful.
"This place is like a town inside the city. Here nobody needs to hide what they are and we all live in cohabitation. I'll show you to our house where the pack resides." Yunho realised the alpha was speaking to him without looking at him.
They got to a house at the border of the forest. Two persons were making out on the porch and Yunho gathered it was Changmin and Junsu.
"You two either keep it in your pants or you go take care of each other in a more private place."
They separated and Junsu took Changmin's hand and pushed him towards the forest.
"Those two have a cabin in the forest because they get on our nerves otherwise." He said looking towards where the lovebirds disappeared. "The pack isn't very large right now. Besides Changmin and me there are only three wolves: Jinki, Jonghyun and Amber. We also welcomed a Centaur because he was alone and felt sad without his herd."
Jaejoong gestured towards a three quite far away, were he could see the half man, half horse creature reading.
"Isn't that the History teacher, Professor Park?"
"Yes that's him. Hyori created a spell for him that only allows his true form to be revealed inside this place. He can go anywhere else and he'll be or seem normal too everybody."
They walked to the centaur then.
"Yoochun-ah!"
The centaur got up and trotted towards them.
"Professor Park, glad to see you."
"Jung Yunho-ssi. It's great to meet you without the pretence! Please call me Yoochun"
"I'm showing Yunho around, would you care to join..." Jaejoong began but couldn't stop as a shout came from the woods.
"Jaeeeeejoooong!"
So fast even Yunho's eyes couldn't follow everything, Jaejoong sprinted towards the forest. Somebody appeared though before he could make it to the line of trees.
It was a girl, she looked young and her clothes were ripped like she had been running for days.
Yunho went to where Jaejoong was standing, followed by Yoochun. The girl looked soft, though she was definitely a werewolf. She had long hair and a soft, childlike face though it was dirty.
In the next moment the whole pack was around them. Not menacing but present and ready to protect.
"Sulli?" one of the wolves said.
"Unnie!" The girl was suddenly enveloped in a bearlike hug. Till then she seemed strong but now she was crying. Yunho briefly wondered who this Unnie could be as he only saw boys earlier, but the he realised the one hugging the young wolf was actually a girl. A boyish girl but she smelled feminine nonetheless.
"Jaejoong, this is Sulli, she belonged to my former pack." The wolf said.
After a while the young wolf calmed down.
"He wanted me to get married to form an alliance but I refused." Sulli said, tears still falling silently from her eyes.
Jaejoong suddenly was in front of her.
"It's okay. You can stay here; nobody will force you into anything. Amber, take her to the showers then make her sleep some. We'll organize the rest tomorrow. I'll go inform Hyori."
Amber took Sulli to the house. After a short pause Jaejoong spoke again. "Stay out of their way. I think she needs to be left alone for today." And the whole pack dispersed.
"It's not so busy normally" Jaejoong told him while going to another building. "We don't get new people that often."
The building was slightly strange and reeked of magic. Somebody was sleeping by the entrance, or he seemed to; he was floating in the air, looking like one would be lounging in a hammock, but there were no such thing holding the teen. Only a strange bubble around him.
"Minho, is Hyori in here?"
"No. She went to the lake. Who's that?"
Yunho was slightly surprised that one could talk so freely to an alpha and survive, but Jaejoong didn't seem really keen on respect outside his pack.
"This is Yunho. Yunho this is Minho, he's part of Hyori's coven. He wasn't in school today due to a slight levitation problem."
"Spell gone wrong?"
"No I played a prank on a mermaid."
"We'll go see Hyori by the lake." Jaejoong intervened. "Next time remember Heechul doesn't like surprises."
"You have mermaids as well... I'm impressed" Yunho said while the both of them walked down a path.
"Yes. Heechul and Taemin; two brothers." Jaejoong was still keeping his eyes away from him Yunho realised.
"Heechul you have to let him down. He needs to go to school and you know it." Yunho could hear Hyori speak.
"I will not let him go. As long as Heebum will shy away from me, he will float in the bubble." Yunho suddenly saw the head on the water; the torso beginning to emerge followed by a bright red tail. When the person sat on the deck, legs appeared, clad in a very fashionable pair of red pants.
"Hyori, I need a minute." Jaejoong said.
"Heechul, if you don't release him before next Monday, Siwon will be needed in the coven every evening of the next month."
Heechul started to splutter with indignation.
"We have a wolf that just arrived..." Jaejoong began.
Yunho thought it best to go introduce himself to the merman.
"Hello there. My name is Yunho."
"I know. Siwon told me you'd be coming around here." He gestured toward the lounge chair where Yunho could see Siwon sitting. Another man was next to him and Yunho could recognize the cook from lunch. He nodded in their directions and they acknowledged him back. "The only rule that I have is don't touch my brother. If you respect it then all should be good between us."
"Hyung! I'm old enough to decide who can touch me." Another merman said from the water.
"NO YOU'RE NOT" Heechul screamed. "If you still make stupid prank with Minho then you're not. You're grounded, go back in the water." Heechul got up and stomped to the lounge chairs and plopped down on Siwon's thighs.
Yunho walked back to the other two still discussing the wolf. "They might send someone after her... I'm slightly worried. And how did she get in." Hyori was musing aloud.
"She must have entered when I did. I could feel you lowered the barrier to let me in. She must have entered at that time."
"THAT IS WHY I NEED MINHO!" Hyori screeched.
"How long has he been like that?"
"One week. And Taemin has been punished here as well. He cannot get out of the water until Heebum, Heechul's cat, is not terrified by him anymore."
"What did they do?"
"They exchanged Heechul's shampoo with pink dye. He screamed so loud it terrorized poor Heebum. It still trembles around him."
"Heechul.... Your only rule is 'Don't touch my brother', right" Yunho said loud enough for the three others to hear him.
"Yeah, you've got a problem with it?" The other shouted, glaring at Yunho.
"Just get Minho in water, which will break the bubble."
"JUNG YUNHO! YOU'RE NOT ALLOWED TO TELL THEM THAT!"
"Hey I didn't break your rule."
"Chul-ah, let it go. He's been punished long enough. I'm sure he will not mess with you again." Siwon said to the merman.
"But..."
"Hee... It's okay, he's learned his lesson. Stop it." The other person said. He had a really calm voice and thick Chinese accent. It was like Heechul suddenly deflated, all his tension left his body and he seemed really calm.
The three of them started their way back towards the coven's house. Hyori hurried ahead of them, no doubts wanting to free her witch.
Chapter 3 - The Dinner
"How did you know about the bubble thing?" Jaejoong asked after seeing Minho run around.
"I used to be a Tracker in my Seethe. People came to our leader asking to find lost things; they paid a hefty price and we were sent after the item. One time it happened to be a mermaid but we were faced with transportation problem. What Heechul used on Minho is his transportation spell. That allows mermaids to flow from one body of water to the next. For security measure it only breaks when it's in contact with a big amount of water."
"Why didn't Taemin tell him that?"
"Most probably because he didn't know. That spell is only taught to Mermaids when they pass their Maturity Swim. It avoids young mermaids trying to play out of the water and getting seen or taken."
"You seem to know a lot about them."
"The mermaid we retrieved for that mission was very talkative. She had no problem revealing trade secrets to us."
"Even though you took her."
"I know what my job sounds like but that particular case was actually getting back what had been stolen. She wanted to come with us in order to go back to her family."
Suddenly a big bell sound started.
"Come, It's time to eat... We always eat pretty much all together"
They both started walking towards the biggest building. It was round and like a giant gazebo: a set of columns and no windows, nor walls. Everything was opened and overlooking the lake. Yunho could see a very large table where only a few places were left.
"Will you join us to eat?" Jaejoong asked, looking directly at Yunho for the first time that day it seemed. The latter could see some of Jaejoong's wolf showing in his irises and he briefly wondered if he had done anything to anger the alpha.
At the same time, half of his mind was suddenly trying to stop his thirst. He shouldn't feel it as he drank right before coming and he wondered what was wrong with him. Only he didn't have much time to dwell on that.
"Jung Yunho!" Heechul was suddenly in front of him. "It would be nicer if the next time you intend to reveal trade secrets of my people you first cleared it with me. That will be a new rule for you to follow as well. We'll just count this as a beginner's mistake." Then the merman turned around and went to sit between Siwon and the cook.
"Does he have control issues?" Yunho whispered for Jaejoong's benefits.
"Some" he replied with a smile. "He's a bit bossy but he's got a good heart. Thankfully Siwon and Hangeng can contain him."
Once he was seated Hangeng got up and went to him. "Good evening. I'm Hangeng." Yunho got up to bow to the new comer and thanked him about the food at lunch.
"That was my ... worry?" He obviously was struggling with the language and was looking at Jaejoong, like he was asking if it was correct.
"What exactly was?" Yunho asked in Chinese. The other seemed surprised but relieved.
"I didn't exactly know what you'd like to eat. Or what you can eat really..."
"Aside from my specific snack I eat pretty much everything. Thanks for minding my diet." Yunho said smiling
"No problem" the other answered with a shy smile.
During dinner Yunho got introduced more extensively to the pack and some other. Changmin, once you could get him away from Junsu was a snarky, always-hungry wolf. He was apparently very smart and got along great with Minho through their love of gaming. Jonghyun and Jinki were brothers. Jinki was a very dominant wolf but calm and delicate at the same time. Jonghyun was more of a goofy part of the pack. Yoochun was accepted by everyone as a respected elder. Not that he looked old or anything as the Centaur was youthful and also could be silly as a teenager but he got a lot of respect from every member of the pack.
He was introduced to Taemin. Well actually Taemin came running to him thanking him for freeing Minho and squeezing the life out of him at the same time. All this happened under the glare of Heechul. Once he was done Yunho secretly told him to go back to his brother before he earned more grounded time. Yunho couldn't deny that the teen needed all the protection he could get from his brother as his face was a work of art. While he was wondering if he ever saw someone as pretty as Taemin, Jaejoong's face suddenly popped in his head and he quickly shook that thought away along with some thirst.
Minho also came to thank him in a far less flamboyant way and then got into a very heavy discussion with Changmin.
After they were done eating and just sitting together two elves came to them. Junsu and another who introduced himself as Kyuhyun and got into the gaming talk with the two other.
Hyori came to them and asked Minho to come back as she needed him. Yunho surmised it would be to reinforce the barrier and that his presence wasn't helping.
"I'll be on my way home then" he said as he got up.
"Does he have to?" Jaejoong asked to the witches.
"Yes. That would be safer," was the reply he got.
"I'll escort you back to the entrance" He said, with a hard look on his face.
When they were both alone Yunho felt bad that he had unintentionally made the alpha angry. "I'm sorry if I angered you."
"You haven't" was the short reply. Still Yunho could see something bothering him.
"Once I'll be outside, it will be easier for the witches to reinforce the barrier. The pack will be okay." He said thinking Jaejoong could be worried about his pack. "I'll see you tomorrow in class I suppose."
"Of course. Jaejoong replied with a smile while looking directly at Yunho... Yunho felt blinded by the sight for a second. He also felt a sudden burst of lust, a lust for blood and a lust for Jaejoong.
When he got home he was still thinking about the alpha and the other persons he met that day. Wondering why they were here at all, and what half of them had done to warrant having to quit their own people. He also wondered why he reacted that way. Normally Werewolves and Vampires didn't get along. They couldn't stand each other's presence and tried to avoid it. But he wanted to see Jaejoong more, not less.
He entered his small apartment. It wasn't much but it felt better to be here than to share his space with people only thinking about their place in a coven, how to get closer to the Master. Yunho had grown tired of such thoughts. He liked his previous coven head, they had been good friends even though some of their views differed greatly.
He lied down on his bed and his mind wandered once again to the alpha. He was intrigued and really wanted to get to know him. Something deep inside of him was pushing him in that direction. It made no sense to him but it was still a powerful impulse.
***
At the same time, the pack was having a bit of a council. They were waiting for Amber to have an update on Sulli, in the mean time Jaejoong had started speaking about Yunho.
"What do you mean you're attracted to him?" Changmin asked. "You barely know him."
"Well I don't know, my beast just seemed to find him... interesting. I could barely stand to look at him all day. My beast kept suggesting things to me when I did."
"I haven't known any Vampire-Werewolf couple during my life, and what surprises me is that I thought it couldn't happen." Yoochun said. " I know you guys are polite with each other because it's a rule but I thought you were made to hate each other... That it called to you from inside to rip each other's heart out."
"Maybe it's because he's only half... I don't know."
"What do you plan to do?" was Jinki first incursion in the conversation. "He seemed nice enough to me but do you plan to act on it or just ignore it."
"I don't think I could ignore it even if I wanted to."
Amber entered the living room at that moment. She had spent all her evening with Sulli, calming the wolf.
"She is asleep. I have no idea what she's exactly gone through but Sulli was always very dependent on the pack. She wouldn't have run away easily, or defied Rain for that matter. From what I understood he wanted to marry some of his wolf to create alliances."
"Isn't the rule that you can only do that if the wolves recognise each other." Yoochun asked her.
"Yes, normally it is. But there is no way to scientifically prove that a wolf has recognised, except if the wolf opens his mind to you. I'm sure he is just toeing the line, stopping his wolf to do so."
"But then the other wolves are also cheating." Jinki said. "They would know it's not their mate"
"The problem is that they have no choice." Jaejoong intervened "Jihoon is so powerful they could not say no."
Chapter 4 - The Move
Yunho was spending more and more time with the pack, or with Jaejoong really. Only on the full moon did he avoid the village, just because the pack was very well-mannered didn't mean they would stand him being around when in wolf form and on the hunt. He still listened for the howl that came quickly, wondering what Jaejoong would look like.
The week passed without new incidents. He didn't know why he had been surprised when Hyori asked him if he wanted to move in the village with them. He was already spending so much time there that he didn't know why he hadn't thought about it.
He hadn't been in his apartment long but he had already settled in quite well and he had a ton of stuff that needed to be wrapped and transported to his cottage in the village. He was inside his living room with Jaejoong, Heechul and Taemin as well as Siwon and Hangeng. The last four seemed to be a package deal. Wherever Taemin would go, Heechul would follow, ordering the last two to come with.
From the pack, only Sulli and Amber were missing. Jaejoong had forbidden the young wolf from going outside the house for the time being, and Amber stayed with her because she still hadn't adjusted.
Yoochun entered the living room as he was explaining something to Jae about a book and stopped short looking at all his books. It was really funny how many books one could collect in 400 years.
"When you said you had some books to move I wasn't expecting you to have so many." He finally commented.
"Well the rest is still packed so this is just a few books, really." He commented.
"Hyung, should we put them all in the boxes?" Taemin asked. The teen was really excited to help. He had deemed Yunho a Good Hyung and proposed his help, and Minho's, though that one wasn't planning on helping and was currently reading in a corner supposedly in charge of the refreshment and food when it would be time for lunch.
"Yeah sure... I'll just go pack my stuff in the bedroom."
He sat down on his bed and thought about the past week. He had found Jaejoong alluring when they first met but his curiosity didn't go away. He soon realised he felt happier in the presence of the joyful alpha. They had talked about music, or books, and realised that they wouldn't stop their discussions if they were not interrupted. He also realised that his feelings for Jaejoong was not only curiosity or lust but also something more, something sweeter.
He was still in his thoughts and looked up when he hear a soft knock.
"May I come in?" Jaejoong was looking at him from the door smiling. Yunho felt his stomach stirring.
"Sure."
"I'm really happy you're moving in with us... It will be nice having you closer."
"Thanks" He could not completely hide his smile. He really had a hard time hiding how the wolf made him feel.
That seemed to surprise Jaejoong and he was about to say something when Yoochun entered the room saying the truck was there. The next hour was spent arranging his things to fit most for this trip then it was time to eat, and Minho actually seemed helpful as everything was ready to be eaten the exact moment they all took their break.
The afternoon was spent much the same way the morning had and by dawn he was all set up to live in his new home. He was right in the middle of the village, in between the pack, the coven and the lake.
***
When he entered the cafeteria for breakfast the next day, only Heechul and Taemin were in. He thanked the pair once more for their help before sitting down and eating.
"But I don't understand why you don't want me to cut your hair." Taemin began.
"I told you I wouldn't let you do that. I want something I'll be proud on for my photo. I'd ask Siwon or Hangeng but their sense of style is so pour I could end up without anything on my head."
Jaejoong entered just at that time and went to serve himself off the buffet.
"What I need is somebody with style that has some experience with... Jaejoong!"
The other just jumped at the sudden shout. "Yes?"
"Didn't you tell me you used to cut people's hair in your old pack."
"Yeah that happened some times. I actually cut Sulli's when she arrived here, the part that was too tangled."
Yunho only had had a glimpse of the girl since she had arrived but he had seen the haircut she got and it looked really good on her.
"So you could cut my hair..."
"Heechul, don't you think someone closer to you might be more suited to do that?" Yunho finally asked.
"Why? You don't believe I could do it" Jaejoong said, almost sadly.
"No I just believe that something so intimate should be done by somebody really close to him..."
"What does he mean? What's so intimate about a haircut." Jaejoong asked clearly to Heechul.
"Jung Yunho! I told you not to reveal any secret."
"I didn't say it, I just offered my opinion. But I think he should know."
"All right" Heechul said, almost defeated, "Actually, to a merman, the head is an erogenous zone." He looked almost embarrassed.
"And you want me to touch you there?"
"NO! Of course not, I just want you to cut my hair, not touch my head... I'll wash my head myself... Please."
"We'll be there if you'd like... To talk to him and divert his attention." Siwon said from the door, Hangeng nodding behind him.
"Okay..." Jaejoong said reluctantly.
***
Later that day, Yunho found Jae sitting alone reading a book.
"You're done with Heechul?"
"Yeah, it went easily despite my fears. Though I do not want to know where he went with Siwon and Hangeng after." Remembering how the three of them practically ran when he was done.
"Probably to release the tension. Mermaids have really sensible head. It's probably the first time Heechul has anybody else cutting his hair." Yunho offered as an explanation. Feeling his libido react to the idea of sharing that kind of intimacy with the wolf.
"Did you already finish unpacking?"
"Yeah... Most of my stuff is already in place... The rest I don't need right now. Also Yoochun took half my books to read them so I have a lot of space left."
" I think that if he could he'd only read all day long." Jaejoong said with a smile.
They settled in a comfortable silence. Yunho had had some questions in his head for some time now and decided to ask them to the Alpha. It was like he craved knowing more about him.
"Can I ask you a personal question?" Yunho asked, then after a small nod from Jaejoong he went on. "How did you not fit in? I've seen you lead and you're a great alpha."
"As Jihoon put it back then I was too carefree and soft to be a good leader. He wanted me to be tough and hard on the wolves and I just wanted them happy." He had a faraway look while he was speaking about it. "At one point I felt threatened. I thought another wolf would challenge me for my place, or worse, that Jihoon would take me out so somebody else could take it. After I heard him talk to some other wolf about me I decided it would be better if I left. I found Hyori on the way and she offered me a place here. Soon after Changmin arrived and though I didn't want to be an alpha I became one."
"Do you regret it?"
"No. Most days they're a headache but I love them all and I know they do as well in their own ways. Plus it gave me the opportunity to help other who felt alone like I did at one point." Jaejoong said with a smile. Yunho really loved his smile.
"Jae?" Yoochun was calling from the door.
"Yes?"
"Amber would like to make Sulli see the village. She's been cooped in the pack's house for almost a week now and it seemed a good idea to let her meet some people."
"Sure, why not..."
"You actually need to come to lift up your command."
"Aah, right. Yunho I'll see you around."
They both went away and Yunho let his senses loose trying to hear what they were talking about on their way to the house.
"No nothing happened."
"Are you sure, you look shaken... "
"No we just talked about some things, it was a nice conversation but you know how I react... thank you for checking on me though. You're the best, Chunnie."
Yunho went back to his place wondering if one day the alpha would also have a nickname for him.
When dinner came, he went to sit with the pack and was quite surprised to not see Sulli once again.
"Did something happen?" he asked Changmin as Jaejoong wasn't there yet.
"We're not too sure. Sulli says her wolf has taken an interest in Minho but she also was going along great with Jonghyun so Jaejoong asked them to take their time and to not hurry anything. They're still really young, and the pack is so small it could just be the novelty of a meeting."
Yunho decided that he wouldn't bother the Alpha tonight but he still felt quite troubled not to see him.
Chapter 5 - The Warning
Despite some worries they had given the situation with Sulli, the new week started calmly, until the Wednesday evening when Yunho suddenly felt another Vampire approaching. He went to Hyori to tell her, not that he feared the arrival as he was pretty sure he knew who it was.
"Whoever it is, they will not be able to enter." He found her saying to Jaejoong.
"She will enter, believe me." He told her
"What do you mean?"
Suddenly a person plopped in the air above him.
"I found him" he shouted and one second later, two more persons appeared. One was a woman, beautiful and clearly vampire. The two others were male and Yunho could tell he was the only one who knew what they were.
"You're not the easiest person to find, Yunho." The vampire said.
"Boa; it's always a pleasure. Key, Sungmin, I think I told you to announce if you were coming; am I wrong?"
"We didn't have time." One of the two boys said. He had a pouty mouth and slightly pointed ears.
"Plus I don't obey you." The other one said, looking determinedly at his nails.
"Hyori, this is Boa, one of my friends. With her are Sungmin and Key" Yunho said pointing each person. "They are both Fae, that's why you couldn't keep them out" He added seeing she didn't understand how they breached the barrier.
Though it seemed to annoy her greatly, she knew she couldn't change a thing about their presence. Fae were magic but a kind so different from hers that they were not bound by the same laws. They could both overrule her magic, simply wishing it to not affect them. The only rule to a Fae was to stay neutral.
"Come I'll show you around." He said, trying to take them out of the room before Hyori exploded. "What are you doing here?" He asked them once they were alone. Key and Sungmin had apparently decided that human form was a bother and were currently both sitting on Boa's shoulder in their Lilliputian forms.
"We came to warn you. Kangta sent us after he received a very special demand from an alpha. Do you know someone called Jihoon."
"Wait a minute, we'll need to go to the pack's house."
When they reached the house Yunho saw Jae talking with Yoochun. He took a minute to restore his countenance as it had started to crumble every time he saw the alpha.
"Are you pinning after the wolf?" Boa asked him. This was one of the reasons why he didn't miss her. She knew him so well she could read him in less than a second.
He started walking towards the pair. When Jaejoong saw him standing so close to Boa, Yunho saw something like hurt go through the Alpha's eyes and he wondered if it was a bad time.
"I'm sorry but it seemed important. This is about Jihoon."
All of a sudden Jaejoong was all Alpha, his aura fully out and Yunho felt himself harden in his pants, but this was not the time.
"This Jihoon came to our master, asking for our services. He wanted us to come and retrieve one of his wolves."
"If you try to take her, I'll destroy you, Friend or not." Jaejoong growled, suddenly they could feel not only the wolves around them, but Minho, Junsu and Taemin were there as well.
"She came to warn us Jaejoong. Kangta would never send his seethe as my enemy." Yunho intervened.
"When Jihoon told us where his wolf was our Master denied his request, but it felt like he wouldn't give up, so he sent me as a warning. That alpha will try to come take what he think is his."
"And he will go back empty handed, if he still has hands. More than half of this pack has reasons to hate him." Jaejoong said, and it ringed a bit like a morbid promise.
***
Boa had decided to stay a little bit, as she had promised Kangta to make sure nothing happened to Yunho and his new 'friends'. In the two days she had been here, the obvious proximity of the two vampires had taken its toll on the alpha who was trying to hide it. In turn, he got comfort from the Centaur and that did not sit well with the Vampire.
Hyori requested a meeting that night for everybody.
This was the first time Yunho saw the last elf who lived there. Junho looked like he was Junsu's twin, and Yunho later learned he actually was. He lived in the forest, mostly alone. And Junsu told him like a secret that he thought Junho was really studious but didn't want to go to human school. Apparently he refused to hide his elf nature.
There was a really fun moment when Yunho introduced Boa and the two Fae. They had deigned to take their human form for the night and Sungmin took one look at the assembly and decided to go sit on Kyuhyun's lap, must to the elf's surprise.
Key barely paid any attention to anyone but Yunho saw that he received a lot from Jonghyun. During the week, the wolf had felt like he lost his new friend as Sulli had spent most of her time with Minho, and he missed their conversations. Apparently his wolf was happy he didn't need to take care of her as he found a new obsession in the form of a Fae with cat-like eyes.
"It would seem we will soon be under attack from a pack of werewolves." Hyori started. "We all know Jihoon is going too far with the way he's leading his pack, but he has too many friends in the Were hierarchy to fear them."
"I was once in his pack, and I was rejected because I seemed too soft for him, and I could never be a good leader in his eyes." Jaejoong said.
"He was so wrong," Changmin stated. "I was turned by one of his wolf. That wolf was actually not gone mad, and it wasn't the Full Moon but he still started hunting in human territory and he killed my family. Jihoon didn't care and told him it was okay. He told me I should see my new form as a gift and forget my humanity." Junsu gently caressed his back after he spoke.
"I was casted out from the pack because I was too dominant for a female . He actually set the wolves after me in a hunt, telling them to show me where my place was." Sulli touched her arm gently. Then she spoke. Her voice wasn't as sure as the other.
"He wanted me to marry someone and to lie about him being my mate. I may be young and not understand politics but I think that as an alpha he should care more about his wolf than about his territory." Minho hugged her.
"When he came to us," Boa started, "He said his wolf was stolen, that her mate was too weak to live without her and that she must be unhappy. That wolf tried to convince us that he knew best; and it could have worked on someone else. He will find somebody to track her." Yunho took her hand softly. He was telling her it was okay, trying to comfort her and didn't see the hurt in Jaejoong's eyes.
"What can we do to better our defences?" Hyori asked.
"Only get out to go to school. At least we'll all be in the vulnerable place, it would better our chances in case of an attack." Minho proposed.
"Always stay in group, an alone prey is an easy prey." Boa intervened.
"Will your Fae help?" Hyori asked.
"I don't think so. One of the problems with Fae magic is that they need to stay neutral. So anything they could do could also backfire and help the enemy. So basically, that means they cannot help reinforce defences."
"I think our problem lays more in the attack aspect than the defence one" Heechul cut in. "We're all pretty peaceful creatures. I don't know any attack spells, Hyori's coven is not an offensive one, the elves have had next to no training for too long."
"And my pack is too young to be experienced with fighting." Jaejoong added. Even though that earned him a glare from Changmin.
"We will better ourselves" Yoochun said, his hand reaching for Jae's shoulder. "I have some fighting experience, I'm sure Yunho knows a few trick as well. We will not accept defeat before we even try to fight back."
Chapter 6 - The Training
Yoochun who knew some ancient magic powers was appointed to work with the Elves, the Mermen and the coven; Yunho dedicated himself to the pack's training.
He soon realised most of the wolves didn't have any training to fight. Amber was willing but she lacked technique. Jinki seemed too soft even in the way he punched. Sulli needed to accept that it was okay to hurt someone else, and Jonghyun needed to stop staring at Key. Changmin wasn't half bad and Jaejoong took over his training.
He spent one day teaching them in human form then changed to wolf form. The huge beasts were more agile, and Yunho could see that what he thought them about already did wonders. When he was done for the day he went to check on Changmin and Jaejoong. He stopped, breath short, while watching the black wolf that could only be the alpha. Jaejoong was magnificent, and if he was honest Yunho even found him sexy like this.
He felt Boa coming next to him. She started laughing at him and Jaejoong, who heard them pushed Changmin roughly through the air. Changmin got back up, a bit upset. At that moment the bell for lunch sounded and they both changed back, quickly putting clothes back on. Jaejoong could still hear Boa, laughing and it greatly vexed him again.
Yunho had explained to her that he thought the alpha was really closed with the centaur, too close for his liking. The fact that she had expressed her interest in the Centaur didn't stop her from laughing at him for pinning after a taken man.
***
Later that night, Boa found Jaejoong sitting in the clearing he was exercising in earlier. She and Yunho had taken up rounds at night and she knew he was not far away.
"Something bothering you?" she asked the wolf. He still hadn't really warmed up to her.
"No, well not something that should." Was the answer she got.
There was a time they just sat in silence until Jaejoong spoke again.
"How long have you known Yunho?"
"His whole vampire life. Kangta tried to offer me a companion to spend eternity."
"He must be happy he succeeded" They didn't hear Yunho arrive on the other side of the clearing.
"Yes, though he didn't think it would go like it had. How long have you known Yoochun."
"Five years, even though it seemed we've known each other forever. I'm close to 200 years but nothing in the years before him seems as happy as the time I spent with him. He's allowed me to discover what family meant."
"So you love him?" Boa asked him. They didn't see Yunho run from the place. The last statement was already too much for him, he didn't want his heart even more broken than that.
"In a way, yes. He is my best friend."
"Your best friend? I thought it was more."
"It's funny how everyone thinks that. Yoochun is not interested in me, and I'm not attracted to him. We just connect on another level."
"So you mean he's free? I could have a go at him."
"Why would you do that," Jaejoong almost growled at her. The nice alpha she had been discussing with a moment ago all gone. "Are you really that low?"
"What do you mean? I just find him interesting and sexy." She asked, trying to understand what overcame the wolf.
"But you already have a lover, doesn't that mean anything?" He hissed.
After a moment of thinking, Boa finally understood what was wrong.
"Jaejoong, do you think Yunho is my lover?" She asked calmly.
"Of course I do." was the hissed reply.
"Well he isn't. He's like my brother in a way."
"But you touch him all the time."
"As you do with Yoochun."
Jaejoong seemed to mull over that for a small time.
"I was so sure you were lovers."
"No, we're not. Kangta hoped Yunho could be that for me but it never worked. We're far too alike." She wondered why the Alpha had gotten so angry at her and decided to tempt fate. "But he was really hurt this week. He saw you so close to Yoochun I'm pretty much sure he's as convinced as I was you're a couple."
"I need to talk to him!"
"Jae!"
"Later Yoochun," Jae said as he passed him.
"What happened?" He asked in disbelief. Yoochun could count on one hand the times Jaejoong had not stooped whatever he was doing to talk with him.
"Well let's just said your friend and I discovered that we could misread relationships."
"Such as?"
"Yours with him, mine with Yunho."
"You mean to say you're not a couple?" he asked with a winning smile.
"No, we're not. As Jaejoong is quite busy right now, would you like to sit down with me." Her smile mirroring his.
"Of course, I will not let a lady sitting alone in the dark."
"Who new chivalry still existed today."
***
"Yunho open the damn door or I will break it." Jaejoong was knocking with all he could without harming the poor piece of wood.
"What do you want?" He said, opening the door. He was obviously angry.
"Listen, I had a talk with Boa and I realised I was wrong."
"About what?" Even like this, angry, Yunho looked perfect to him. He could feel his wolf coming out slowly, waken up by his feelings for the man in front of him.
"Why are you always angry when I'm looking at you?" Yunho asked.
"I'm not angry. My wolf is just coming out."
"But why would he?" He said, once again clearly upset.
"Can I come in, I'd really like to talk to you about something."
Yunho felt cornered. On one hand he wanted to let Jaejoong come in his room but on the other he felt his arousal kick-starting again. He hadn't been this close to the alpha for 3 days now. He could feel the effect the proximity was bringing to him. He needed space.
"I don't think it's a good idea. You should go back to the pack. Yoochun could be already looking for you." He said, avoiding his eyes and looking sad.
"I think you'll like my idea!" He said and kissed him. After a moment of surprise, Yunho kissed him back.
Even though he was the alpha and he thought he would rule this exchange, he found himself soon dominated by the Vampire. He put his arms around the other not wanting to let him go. After some time, Yunho slowed their kisses and after a tender last peck put their foreheads together, eyes closed.
He could sense Yunho's brain acting up.
"I'm not with Yoochun" Jaejoong said. "He's my friend but not my lover."
"You were so close this week I thought..."
"I know. It's just because I saw you with Boa and I was jealous, and sad and..."
Yunho put a finger on his mouth. "I'm not with Boa either. She's like my sister."
Jaejoong moved the finger from his mouth, keeping the hand in his. "I know. She told me." he said looking at Yunho's eyes directly.
After a moment of silence, they both started to smile and soon kissed again. It wasn't a kiss like the previous one. This was a promise for so much more. And as earlier, Jaejoong could feel that he would not be the dominant one. He found it strange but not as strange as the fact that it didn't bother him. He realised that his wolf was pleased with being taken by the Vampire.
While he was busy thinking, Yunho put his hand on his hips and Jaejoong felt something rumble in his chest. The kiss picked up, gaining in urgency as they both felt the almost two weeks of sexual tension.
Until they heard the sound meaning somebody forced the barrier. They both groaned while going to the meeting point.
Chapter 7 - The Fight and More
When they arrived by the gazebo, Yunho was still grumbling about being interrupted.
As was organised, everybody met in the cafeteria. Spells had been laid to protect the place. Not long after they were all there they saw wolves coming in their direction. They were about 20 of them and Yunho could feel the fear most of his friends were feeling. So many wolves were a huge deal in a fight.
Jaejoong was surprised not to see Jihoon in first line, but the wolf probably stayed in his pack, not wanting to risk losing some territory because he was absent.
"Sulli. Come here." The first wolf said. He was massive and seemed to be all muscles.
"She's not going, Taecyeon." Jaejoong said.
"Jaejoong, is that you. And I see some other leftovers from our pack." He said, an evil smirk on his face as he came closer. That earned him a collective growl from the pack.
Yunho could really see the difference. These wolves were prepared to hunt. They put themselves in the best tactical positions possible. Encircling the cafeteria, making sure no one could escape.
What they hadn't expected was that they would do exactly what had been expected of them. Some vines the elf had made shot out of the ground and only the most agile could escape the on time. The rest were already prisoner, the more they fought, the tighter the vine would get. Two of them jumped so far they were close to the lake and a trap Heechul had laid earlier made them fall in the water. With 10 wolves left, Taecyeon was a little bit less smug.
"Will you let other species fight your battles, Jaejoong." He said, trying to get a rise out of Jaejoong."That's why you were never fit to stand with Jihoon."
"I was never fit to stand with Jihoon because I had a heart and actually cared about the people I had power over, not just their number." Jaejoong snapped back. "And if I may remind you, you only have a place as second because I left. Otherwise you'd still be nothing to your Alpha."
That got a rise out of the other wolf.
Jaejoong prepared himself to go out, and fight. They had agreed that only Changmin, Yoochun, Jae and the vampires would fight. The other would stay in the gazebo, behind another barrier, protected. They each exited on one side, the wolf changing as they got out. Not a second later the fight had begun, each one fighting 2 wolves..
Boa seemed as if she was dancing away from her enemies, that seemed to confuse the wolf at all and they clearly seemed used to a more animalistic kind of battle, which was good for Boa, but bad for Changmin. Yoochun was really impressing. Yunho couldn't remember when was the last time he saw a centaur fight, and the show was really something. He was using his front legs as much as his back ones. In his hands were stilettos, the pointed, short weapons seemed so small but he used them with dexterity.
Yunho was busy trying to get to one, avoiding the other and keeping an eye on Jaejoong. Because of that he almost missed the paw of a grey wolf, and started to pay more attention. Still two against one was not really fair and he suffered some blows, He had a cut on one of his arm and he could sense some broken bone in his other hand. Before he could knock out his two opponents.
Jaejoong was really fighting with all he had but the wolves knew how to act as a team, pairing up to harm him as he seemed preoccupied over Changmin. The fight seemed more levelled when Boa had finished her opponents and went to help Changmin.
Soon Taecyeon and Jaejoong were the only ones fighting.
"If you promise to leave us alone, we will let you go." Jaejoong told him.
After a moment, Taecyeon agreed, still spiteful. Sungmin came in front of them and Taecyeon realised his mistake.
"As a neutral observer I render formal the decision that the werewolf Taecyeon, and henceforth his pack will leave alone all the people present here as well as any addition they might make."
As a Fae, Sungmin could almost make laws. If Jihoon's pack ever came after anybody here, they could ask the Fae's help.
When Jaejoong, Yoochun and Changmin came back from escorting the werewolves outside their territory everyone erupted in cheers.
"They won't come back?" Sulli asked.
"Well, even if they do, we will not let them do anything to you."Sungmin said.
"Was that really neutral though?" Yunho asked
"We can choose were the neutral really lies." Key told him in a smug way.
Yunho would have continued the discussion if he hadn't just at that moment smelled some of Jaejoong's blood that was coming out of one of his cut. He went to the wolf, picked him up and brought him to his place under the cheer of most of the pack.
"Seems like I'm out of a place to sleep. Could you help me?" Boa asked Yoochun with a knowing smile.
***
"Are you hurt anywhere?" Yunho asked Jaejoong.
"It will heal." He said looking at his body. He looked up in Yunho's eyes and could see lust and hunger at the same time. He saw the fangs were still there proof that Yunho had less control in that instant than ever before in his presence. He also seemed pretty embarrassed.
"Do you want me to leave?" he asked even though he didn't want to go. His inner wolf was demanding he picked up where they left earlier.
"No, I..." Yunho was looking from his eyes to the blood on his hand. "Maybe I should drink something before..."
"Go ahead" Jaejoong said but when Yunho made a move to get up he found himself prisoner of the Alpha's legs pressed against a hardening length, a bloody wrist in front of his face. "I've been thinking what that would feel like, your fangs in my skin."
Yunho could not concentrate anymore, he opened his mouth and closed it over the wound. Thanks to the werewolf's power the cut was closed already but he just bit a little to start the blood flow anew.
Jaejoong's blood tasted like heaven to him. He wanted to drink only that for the rest of his life, to drown in the taste. Thankfully he was still conscious enough to feel when it was enough, stopping the dinking and starting to lick up around the wound, going up the arm.
If Yunho biting him felt good, his licks were awaking the east within him. He could feel himself hardening even more. He was so lost in the feelings he didn't feel Yunho move but he heard the sound of ripping clothes and found himself pressed against cold skin. Yunho's head was currently at his neck, but he wasn't afraid. He held Yunho's head to his face and kissed him.
"There is something else I'd like to discover..." Jaejoong said, slightly nipping on his lips at the same time, and if Yunho didn't already feel close to implosion, now he was. He started a slow movement with his hips at the same time he kissed Jaejoong.
Jaejoong started moaning, his erection pressed against Yunho, the subtle movement bringing him the desired friction. But it wasn't enough, he wanted skin. He started pulling on Yunho's pants, trying to express his desire by words but failing as only small cries past his lips.
All of a sudden the contact was gone and Jaejoong was about to protest when he saw Yunho unbuttoning his pants. He started on his as well and didn't hesitate to take off his boxers at the same time. Yunho stopped short when he saw Jaejoong lay bare in front of him and he just stared.
"Will you kiss me?" Jaejoong said, a knowing smile on his face.
Yunho went back to him, aligning his body on Jaejoong's, and kissed while marvelling at the delicious contact.
"I want you to touch me." Jaejoong breathed in his ear. "I want this contact between our bodies to never stop."
"I want to be even closer. Will you let me?" Yunho suddenly asked him, looking in his eyes. Jaejoong knew he was also watching for the wolf's response to that possibility. Jaejoong felt the beast in his body launch forward and he kissed Yunho fiercely, picking up the slow motion from earlier that felt so much better now that there were no clothes between them.
Yunho stopped him when he started kissing down his body, bypassing sensible zones only to come back to them later. Soon Jaejoong was ready to scream in agony, only waiting for Yunho's touch where he really needed it. And then it came and Jaejoong did scream. He screamed Yunho's name while coming over his stomach. Then he was left in a post coital daze for only a second and was kissed by Yunho once he had settled along his body.
He was a little apprehensive when he felt Yunho's finger probe at his entrance. The vampire had apparently found some sort of lubrication as the digit entered him without too much resistance. He was slowly coaxing him open, scissoring him when he brushed against his prostate and Jaejoong wanted more, he wanted all of him.
Yunho almost made him crazy while preparing him and by the time Yunho deemed him ready he had lost all coherent thoughts that weren't 'more'. His beast was ready to take over, driven by the pure lust flowing in his veins.
Yunho took his fingers out, and settled his body above Jaejoong's. "Can I come in?"
"If you don't I'll be sitting on you soon." was the breathless answer.
He positioned himself and pushed in slowly, afraid to hurt the alpha. But it felt so good he just wanted to drive into him fully and start hammering into the man. Once he was seated inside he tried to give Jaejoong's time to adjust.
"I'm not a crystal glass, Yun-ah."
Yunho kissed him at the same time he started moving, building up speed and revelling in the slow drag of Jaejoong's walls. His moved were fast, starting to get brutal almost when he felt Jaejoong starting to get tighter. He changed slightly the angle, tilting Jaejoong's hips to aim directly at his prostate and found himself with nails in his back.
"Yun-ah." Was all Jaejoong was managing to utter. Yunho knew he was close, he himself was feeling on the verge of coming and his instincts were asking him to bite. He looked at Jaejoong's, his eyes betraying the blood lust he was feeling.
Jaejoong tilted his head in a silent permission and Yunho bent down to drink, bringing pain to Jaejoong's throat that turned to pleasure as well as some friction on his hardness and Jaejoong came. In turn Yunho came in him, brought over by Jaejoong's clenching body as well as the blood flowing in him.
They both stayed like that for a while. Connected in the most intimate way. Until Yunho moved, quickly cleaning Jaejoong before getting back in his arms, head pressed in his throat, breathing slowly. Jaejoong was soon dozing to sleep, driven by the comfort of being held by the one he felt was his mate, even though it seemed impossible.
Yunho thought back on why he left his seethe, wanting to be alone, and was happy he did. Not because he got what he wanted, but because he discovered what he needed.
