happy new year
January 1st means storytime:
[not yet past mending] (Deadwood, Alma, spoilers for S3) was my entry into Yuletide, while
[Optimistic] (Chris/Joey) was my entry for the popslash Sesa.
January 1st also means resolutions, which I love to make. I always have two standards, 1) eat healthily/exercise regularly and 2) write daily, which I usually do a decent job of keeping but it's good to resolve to do even better every year.
2006 was a year with a lot of changes for me, as I moved across the country to be closer to my family (good), leaving many friends behind (sad), got a great new job, and had a lot of other changes big and small. One of the things that was really made clear to me over the year was just how fortunate I am to have so many people in my life who were willing to help me in large and small ways through all these changes, from introducing me to people to providing references to helping me through various obstacles real and imagined to offering encouragement or good wishes when I needed them. I'm really overwhelmed, when I think about it. I was looking at my table of Xmas cards the other night, and thinking how many people (those whom I know in "real" life and those I know mainly on the Internet) I'm so glad I have a chance to know, and how many I'd like to know more. So my third resolution is to keep in better touch with my friends, and to actively seek out opportunities to make new ones.
And my fourth resolution is just for fun: Now that I've moved back to the East Coast, I'm going to make a big effort to explore a lot of places I'm not familiar with, cities and small towns and what have you. It's so easy to fall into a routine where you go to basically a handful of restaurants, a handful of theatres, etc., and my goal for 2007 is to branch out and make sure I really get to know my new home, not just a tiny piece of it.
