I cut my self shaving my legs and it got infected, ok? Just this little cut above my knee.
But then the are all around the cut turned red. Like, an area about the size of my palm. All RED.
Then it turned kinda purple, so I went to the after-hours clinic on Monday night. The doctor asked me how it happened, how long it had been there, etc.
Then she asked me if I have diabetes in my family.
My paternal grandmother had it, my dad has been diagnosed recently, my maternal grandfather had it, and my mom might have it, she's waiting to see what the doctor says. Basically, yes, there is diabetes in my family.
So she wanted me to go to the hospital the next morning for blood tests because 'I' might have diabetes.
Like, WTF???
Your life is going all normal, and then your told you might have diabetes. I'm 20, and I'm going to have to start watching what I eat.
Not to lose weight for aesthetic reasons, and Lord knows I already wanted to lose weight because of my asthma. Now if I don't start watching what I eat my kidneys might give up on me or I could go blind.
Ok, I'm not there yet, I might NOT have it, but if I've got the 'threat' of it hanging over me now, imagine what might happen further on down the road?
I've been avoiding sugar for two days now 'just in case' and I'm already going nuts.
It might sound like I'm making a big deal out of it, but just try going to the gorcery store, making a list of what you usually get, and then think about how much of those things have sugar.
Trust me, it's more than you think.
