Poor AgtOrange, he had to stay up all night--he'd be staying up very late, until 0500 or 0600, and he had an early morning call today. For whatever reason, I was tired and asleep by 0200 last night (usually I'm up until 0400 or so). And for no reason whatsoever, I woke up at 0630 this morning, hungry and tired before I started. Figured I'd go ahead and start the squash biscuits, then go back to bed while the milk/butter cooled to room temperature. Only as I started the recipe, I realized I was running low on all-purpose flour and wanted to put in an order.
Note to self: Do not put in any orders at 0700 in the morning. You are bound to screw it up.
Put in for the flour, saw some other gadgets I wanted, and was horrified to discover the bill came to around a hundred dollars. All I needed was flour. Went to AgtOrange and asked how much I could spend. "Whatever you want," he said. Seriously? No, he was serious. Well, there were some other things....
Now the shopping cart came to $350, which didn't make him bat an eye but made me almost have a heart attack. Managed to pair down everything to $180 bucks, still feeling horrifically guilty about spending all this money. By the time I was done it was 0730 and time enough to start the biscuits in earnest. The stupid part was, I was so groggy when I sent the order finally (after adding and subtracting numerous times items from the total order) that the end result is I'm getting a bunch of fancy cookie making ingredients and sprinkles, but forgot to order the snowflake-shaped cookie cutters to go with. Screw it, round cookies will taste just as good and I'll get to try out this recipe. Believe it or not, I have never made sugar cookies, not once, ever.
I have no idea where I'm going to put the silicone baking mat or the 3-loaf French bread baking pan in our tiny kitchen.
I'd planned to be done with biscuits by 1000 (was making a big batch of yeast biscuits and wanted to try parbaking some and putting them in the freezer). Only at 0830 AgtOrange was hungry and headed out for McDonalds. Normally, when he goes and gets junk food while I'm cooking something better it pisses me off. This time I was so hungry I told him to pick me up a sausage biscuit and orange juice.
The biscuits were finally done (most rolled and in the freezer) at 1130. We ate biscuits and gravy and went to bed.
I woke up again at 1430 (the grocery man should be delivering something anytime now, he was scheduled from 1530-1830). This left me plenty of time to clean the fridge and start dinner, a black-bean and mushroom pasta. The mushrooms are cooking now (I sweated them and now they are soaking up some chicken broth for added flavor). I have no idea where this energy is coming from.
Heck, what energy? I'm completely pooped out.
