So i'm back in good old Florida for spring break, Orlando currently to be exact. I'm visiting Dani for a bit before driving back up to Jax to see the family and a few friends (by the way call if you're in town and want to hang out anytime from Tues and Thurs). Then it's back down to Orlando Friday to get Dani and heading back again to Jax so we can fly back to Rochester for her spring break. I'm quickly becoming the most well traveled person I know...not necessarily how many places I've been but how much of my time is spent in either a car or a plane.
Actually, I will be doing a lot of travelling come August. I'm tagging along with the Catholic community as they go to Cologne, Germany for World Youth Day, basically a conference for teenage Catholics that the pope started about 20 years ago. It is a little strange for to be going to a religious conference, but it's a trip to Germany, and I'm down with Fr. Cool, seeing as how I do all of his random freaking jobs that he manages to come up with. And we'll be there a couple days before and after, so we can do stuff that we want to do. We'll be over there 11 days total I think, the conference taking 6 days. I might be able to hang out in NYC for a day or two as well (we're flying out of La Guardia), depending on a friend of mine's schedule. I'm looking forward to it, it should be good times, despite the fact that I'll be surrounded by around 800,000 Catholics for half of it. I should be able to take plenty of pictures with the nice camera that my wonderful girlfriend just got me. :)
It's been at least 40 degrees warmer down here then I've experienced in a couple months, and on top of that, I can actually see grass here. And that "day star" that everyone keeps talking about. It's incredibly nice to be able to walk around in short sleeves without any sort of jacket, although it's gotten to the point where 70 feels a little too warm...probably a bad sign. But my favorite part about Orlando is walking around and hearing people complain about "how fucking cold it is" and how they won't go outside without a jacket....when it's 70. For most of you, I probably appear a bit harsh, but when you haven't seen 30 in two months.... Not that I'm complaining, as I did make a fully informed choice about what I was getting into...it just gets a little old after a while.
Hopefully I will find the time to get the work I need to do over break...that way I'm not completely ignoring Dani when she's up at school with me next week. Plus, the rest of March is going to be a living hell as far as work goes. Another round of tests, two projects and a big research paper all in two weeks...fun stuff. So of course, I opted to write a long overdue update instead of working.
It looks like we'll be living out in what basically amount to student apartments. By we I mean the Inter-Campus-Music-Center group. The school decided it liked the alumni money more and gave the house back to the frat. Not that I was expecting otherwise, but it would have been nice if the school hadn't completely bent over and whored themselves out. It doesn't sound too bad though, it's not that far away from most classes or the dining center. Hopefully the latter would not be as much of a factor since we would have four kitchens that we could actually use. And we have a large common area and first dibs on a large basement where we can hold events. Of course, this all hinges on us actually getting the space, which is not a certainty. But I think it's a fairly safe bet.
I think that's enough rambling for now. I'm looking forward to going out to the gazebo by the lake later to enjoy a good pipe, something that is difficult to do in below freezing temperatures.
