My parents were very conscientious about the culture they exposed my sister and myself to. So, I became a huge fan of classical music at a very young age. However, when I was 8, my 16 year old sister decided it was time that I became a fan of 'cool' music. She made me the following mix tape:
SIDE ONE:
Brown Eyed Girl Van Morrison
In Your Eyes Peter Gabriel
December, 1963 (Oh What a Night!) Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons
Sweat (A La La La La Long) Inner Circle
YMCA The Village People
Escape Rupert Holmes
I Will Survive Gloria Gaynor
I Would Walk 500 Miles The Proclaimers
SIDE TWO:
Cecilia Simon and Garfunkle
All That She Wants Ace of Base
River of Dreams Billy Joel
Queen of the Night Whitney Houston
Can't Help Falling In Love UB40
Hey Jealousy Gin Blossoms
Daughter Pearl Jam
Break It Down Again Tears for Fears
Over Christmas I found the mix-tape and showed it to my sister. "Do you remember making this for me?" I asked. "You made it for me when I was 8 because you wanted me to listen to 'cool' music."
"No, I don't remember." She looked over the playlist and said, "Wow. This. Is not cool."
:-D
(it's kinda cool)
