Sorry for making so many LJ posts lately. I need to get this off my chest now.
Sometimes using free textures sucks. Especially free textures from sources where there never used to be a terms of service anywhere...
...to suddenly a terms of service popping up after years of free willy use -- you know: free for non-profit but pay once used for commercial purposes. No prob there...
...until you decide as we in Spanish, out of your own pants, to prohibit any textures from being used in any, absolutely ANY commercial ventures until you decide once for all how to decide when/how/where/any other w- pronoun people pay you for commercial usage. Oh, but prints on DA are fine. And oh, because someone recommended considering asking for royalties too, you're going to consider stipulating that too.
Seriously, you do know where you're offering your resources right? A good chunk of us aren't able to pay for every single royalty. I almost want to bet that the person who recommended royalties either 1) is rich and doesn't have to worry about a budget like the rest of us or 2) is somewhere in the middle-class level and is the type of person who recommends capitalistic options willy-nilly without thinking it over (eg a junior-high or high-school student maybe).
It particular annoys me when I'm using/have used this person's textures --and in things that I planned to use for commercial purposes-- and actually contacted them when they decided to put down a TOS for their textures WAY LONG before they decided to put a stop, only to never have received an answer. (They say they received too many messages about it...really? T_T) I don't mind paying a one-time fee for things. If anything, I'm worried anytime someone says that their resources are free to use in any venture whatsoever, personal or commercial >o> I mean, it's almost natural to pay for a resource, right?
Am I being a jerk for not wanting to pay much for something that was never clear on whether it was apparently free or not? Am I criticizing the person too much for wanting to make a quick buck simply because I've become accustomed to certain ways? Have I become one of those people you hear about on the Internet? XD
UGH. Now I have to see whether Mayang or cgtextures.com have this same type of texture on this image I'm fixing a bit. I doubt it, but you never know. And such a perfect feeling the texture gave too ;A;
