vulture23 and I saw They Might Be Giants last night. That was my eighth time, and each and every one has been an amazing show.
Shows I've seen:
04/98: Ohio Wesleyan, Delaware, OH
10/98: The Odeon, Cleveland, OH
06/99: Fairfax Fair, Fairfax, VA
05/01: The Odeon, Cleveland, OH
07/02: The Paramount, Seattle, WA
05/03: Crocodile Cafe, Seattle, WA
11/03: EMP, Seattle, WA
11/05: The Moore, Seattle, WA
As usual, Flans varied the lyrics in "Why Does the Sun Shine":
Scientists have found that the sun is a huge atom-smashing machine.
The heat and light of the sun are caused by nuclear reactions between
A failed foreign policy!
A failed domestic policy!
And a failed presidency!
I "danced" rather enthusiastically, as always, and I seemed to terrify the woman next to me, even though I was very careful not to step on her. I think outward displays of enthusiasm are a scary alien concept to Seattle crowds. Flans even commented that it's unusual for the room to be too cold or the crowd to be too sober, but we were it.
There's an interesting dichotomy for me in seeing Them, since I haven't kept up with their recent work. There are 15 years of songs I've mostly memorized, including obscure unpublished stuff, and 5 years of songs I've never even heard except for what they've played at live shows. I'm going to take a stab at fixing that, but they're just a lower priority than, say,
Gaia Consort or
VNV Nation.
If you're a fan, I posted a little more
commentary in
