Very exciting news in my academic career!
I've found a professor to sponsor/supervise me in the Computer Science Project I. Second part of getting this plan to work is that I need to finish this year with a GPA of at least 3.0. As of right now, my average is this semester A- (3.6), so as long as I keep that up and don't go below B average, I'll be fine.
The Project
Last semester I took a course in computer graphics in which we programmed a 3d game using OpenGL. The course was mostly focused on theory of computer graphics (meaning: a lot of matrices and other math).
This time around, I will choose my project, and what I want to build is another game, but this time using Direct X.
It's a big project, so in order to make time for it, my classes, and my other hobbies (which have been evidently suffering this semester), I'm going to push back my December graduation by 1 semester.
I was thinking of naming the game Shadow Empire, composing some tunes derived from our current tunes, and creating a whole mythos for the game, but I tend to get ahead of myself like that :P
I actually have no way of knowing how much I'll be able to accomplish within those 3 months (and a few more months, if I start in the summer, and keep working on it in the winter).
If I think of my OpenGL game, I put in about 150 hours of work into the project, and it was just 'okay'... it was one of the best projects in the class, but compared to what's in the industry with their million dollar budgets, it's crap.
But I'll see where I can make concessions, and where I can focus my energy to make something worthwhile. I'll learn as I go, fly by the seat of my pants, be a leaf on the wind, baby!
